Will this rubber squash down to half its thickness as in picture in like a race track to make a tight water seal.
Hello, Thank you for you question! This 45A Neoprene sheet is fairly soft and will compress under pressure, but reducing it to half of its 1/8‑inch thickness would require considerable force. It is not designed to function like a “race track” gasket that fully crushes to create a tight water seal. Neoprene sheets of this type are commonly used for gasketing, cushioning, vibration dampening, weatherstripping, sound control, and light chemical- or water-resistant applications, offering versatility and durability in commercial and industrial settings. What type of gasket material is recommended for an RV rooftop ? what types of sealants are recommended for use with this product ?
The Neoprene rubber is a good option because it has decent UV/ozone resistance, but we definitely recommend the EPDM rubber as the best suitable option.
RV dealers have parts departments, consult their parts catalog or call them. EPDM is what Jayco used to use.
I would like to glue one side to a steel sheet. What type of adhesive would you recommend using? -20 to 120 degrees f.
You need an acrylic solvent or polyurethane based glue, but please make sure that the brand you use is cleared by that manufacturer for bonding rubber onto steel. Thank you, Rubber-Cal Inc.
