A: Yes, there is a galvanized steel bracket with mounting holes spaced along the length of the bracket and then the plastic cover that goes on top. Both can be cut with a hack saw.

Q:how do you get it to start and end on a stud when the 48" section is not long enough to start and end on a stud?

A: Thank you for your interest in our products! The Rubbermaid FastTrack Garage 48 in. Hang Rail works with traditional stud spacing of either 16" and 24" apart. The rail must began and end on studs, centered for the best result.

A: "Technically it does fit as 4 studs are 48in from the center of the outer studs unless warped..." The rail is 48 inches long. The holes to attach the rail are 1/2 inch from the edge of the rails (47 inches apart). Technically.

A: It doesn't really work as in order to get the 4th screw in, you'd have to put it right at the edge of the fasttrack which you should never do with anything as it will eventually break. They should've made it 49-50 inches.

A: Technically it does fit as 4 studs are 48in from the center of the outer studs unless warped, nonstandard construction or mismeasured in construction. You could use an alternating step approach for multiple 4 foot brackets. Also, you might consider using a 1x4, 2x4, or 1x6 backer board. If hanging something heavier like a string trimmer or leaf blower,the weight will induce torsion which can twist/deform the steel bar, particularly if no drywall or paneling across the studs. The backer board facilitates using additional fasteners, especially around heavier objects that might twist the steel hanger bar.
