This was money well spent. It pushed grout deep into the tile gaps. It was especially useful in a notoriously difficult area - inside corners in shower niches, including the back corners where three planes come together. Was also a lifesaver in grouting rough stone border trim, let us avoid filling the stone pits with grout (did have to seal the stone first to keep the grout from sticking to the surface). Having grouted a lot of tile in the past with only the usual grout towels, this let us use much less grout and also reduced cleanup (still has to use towels but without all the swiping back and forth). Grouting was faster, too. Did have to mix the grout just a bit wetter to get it to gun well but grout strength doesn’t seem to have been affected. Overall, this is one tool I wish I’d bought much earlier. Atch’d image is of the back shower wall, stone mosaic trim, and one of two niches that were grouted with this tool.

This is difficult. I recommend this hand pump because there is nothing else in this price range that I found to pump mortar. However, there must be a trick to loading and reloading that I haven’t figured out because the black screw on end cap binds up extremely easy if any mortar is spilled on the threads. I tried putting masking tape over the course threads to keep spillage off along with rinsing the black cap and nozzle in a bucket of water, but couldn’t seem to keep the threads clean enough. I was working by myself in a tight crawl space which complicated matters and I could never get more than two loads at a time before exiting and thoroughly cleaning the tool to start over. IMPORTANT use type S mortar ONLY. The sand in type N mortar immediately compresses forcing all the water out making the mixture impossible to pump.

It took a little bit of trial and error to get the consistency of the mortar to be able to fill the joints. Be careful not to mix up to much mortar at one time or it will dry out and become to hard to push through the gun. like I said, trial and error. If the mortar is too soupy it will run out, too thick it wont stick to the wall and be hard to go through the gun. Overall a good product and worth the time it save me by just trying to chink in with trowel.

Dear Customer, thank you for taking the time to post your review on Rubi products. It is unfortunate that you are having issues with the Joint Applicator and we want to help resolve those issues. The product used in the Joint Applicator needs to be mixed differently than if you are going to lay it by hand. It needs to be mixed thin enough to make it through the applicator while remaining firm enough to stay where you place it. Additionally, the tip opening should be large enough to let the product flow to the desired bead. If the opening is too small, it will be very difficult for your product to move through the Joint Applicator. Most likely the product was too thick to allow it to pass through the applicator and the moisture was pressed out.
Whichever issue you are having, we are here to help! Please feel free to contact customers service at 305-715-9892 or by email at rubitools.usa@rubi.com so that we can help resolve your issues and answer any questions that you may have regarding your purchase. Also, any feedback to our customer service team about the product will be helpful. At Rubi Tools, we take our continuous improvement program very seriously and we always appreciate constructive feedback that will help better our product.

I used the Rubi joint applicator to grout a brick wall and it was a worth every penny. I started using grout bags which was messy, difficult to use and an extremely slow process. When I switch to the Rubi I was grouting twice the space in the same amount of time as when I used the grout bag!

Easy to assemble. The main issue that I encountered involved the viscosity of the grout mix. Too think and it would constantly plug. Too thin and it would not hold in place but run out of the grout line. Twice I had the applicator tip blow apart. You only get two tips.

I am a cabinet maker not a tile guy. My first tile job has 8" x 48" porcelain tiles with a texture. I tried the typical way of grouting with a float and had a mess to clean up. This grout gun worked great. I left a little water in the bottom op a bucket and put the grout gun in with the tip down when i had to stop for a couple of minutes. That kept the grout soft at the tip. I tried a grout bag first and that was really awkward. This gun made my job easy. Would highly recommend this grout gun. The word is clean it after using it and it will work great every time.
