Q:After the first coat how long do I have to wait for the second coat?

Answer This Question

A:  Great question, Victor! You can recoat Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating after 12 hours and within 3 days without additional prep. Just make sure the surface is clean and dry. After 3 days, the floor will need to be scuff sanded with 60/80 grit sandpaper on a pole sander and cleaned prior to coating. Etching is never needed when recoating as that is only for bare concrete. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:Ive read online that etching introduces moisture into concrete and may have negative effect to epoxy coating. How many days should i let it dry after etching and rinse it with water?
    by|Feb 12, 2024

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out! The etching powder included in the Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating Kit is mixed with water. Once the floor is completely dry, it is ready to be coated. The dry time of the floor will be dependent on the condition of the floor, your temperatures, humidity, and how much air circulation you have in the space. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:Hi, we applied the epoxy coat for our 2 car garage as instructed, but realized at the end we almost had half of the epoxy mixture left. We didn’t use it generously. Is it going to be a problem and start pealing off soon? Is there any way to fix this?

      Answer This Question

A:  We're here to help, Annie! Each pouch of Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating has a recommended coverage of up to 250 square feet. If the coating was applied too thin, it may not be as durable as a full coat. If the coating was applied too thin, a new full coat can be applied over the existing application. 2.5 Car kit definitely covers 2 car garage
Everything went according to plan and came out looking great. Time will tell if it lasts. One thing I’ll note is that the 2.5gallon kit definitely covers a 2 car garage. I read a bunch of reviews saying to buy an extra 1 car and mix in from the start so color is uniform so I did. Huge waste of money I was left with enough epoxy to probably epoxy a whole other 2 car garage. And I did it thick

Worked out great. Does show the imperfections in the concrete but it makes cleaning up so much easier. Also I bought way more than I needed. Each kit said 400-500 square feet or 2 1/2 car garage. I did a 30x70 shop with two kits. My concrete was smooth not a course texture so may be a difference but was surprised the kits covered so well. Plus it saved me several $$

There are a few issues that aren't mentioned in the instructions or the how to videos. The first issue is the cleaner degreaser. It's not especially strong and could be better. The second issue is the instructions mentions after each section is etched rinse and once all sections are rinsed, rinse the entire floor once more. I rinsed my floor 4 more times and it still didn't remove the acid residue. The next morning I noticed the residue and how dirty my floor was after cleaning, degreasing and etching. So I decided to put my pressure washer to work. I have a surface cleaner attachment and it removed the dirt and residue. The third issue I had was there was no mention in the instructions about having a gritty floor after etching and rinsing. The etching process is supposed to rough up the floor so that the paint will adhere to it. After the second day of rinsing I found the floor was full of sand. So I swept the floor really good and then vacuumed it again to make sure I got it all. Nowhere was this ever mentioned. The last thing you want is to have all that grit in you paint. Rust-oleum needs to add a step of two. Check out the image below. I hope this helps.

          Easy to apply
My husband and I completed the renos of our floor basement using this product. Our basement floors already had paint, so we also had to purchase the primer. It was a bit easier because we didn't have to do the acid etching with the paint primer. Overall process was easy to complete, made sure our floors were clean, applied the primer, waited 15 hours and applied the epoxy and sprinkled the paint chips on. We waited for 3 days for the epoxy to cure before we moved our stuff back in. We were shuffling our laundry machine and dryer back in place, and even after 3 days of curing, the machines still scraped the floor a bit :/ ... overall happy with the product, but wish it were more durable. We touched it up with some floor paint where there were scratches, so not the end of the world.

This is Dark Grey with Clear
If your looking at the reviews you are considering, I won't write out the steps, I will however tell you the following 2.5 car is plenty enough we did a 2 car garage with one bag, Careful on the sprinkles (saw someone use a seed spreader), Adding the clear coat takes it from ok to something you will be proud of dont scrimp, clear coat will cover the same space but you have to work alot harder... I guarantee if you roll it on like you do the color you will need at least 2 boxes and thats not nescessary

We need to know more to get to the bottom of this. When applied to properly prepped and etched bare concrete, Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating dries to a beautiful gloss finish. Give us a call at 888-683-5667.

              dark gray
This is a great color to help hide blemishes and i was able to use this one kit for my entire 2 car garage. For some reason its impossible to find a 1 car kit in this color. I was dreading the possibility of needing to buy two 2.5 car kits. The workable time is short so you do need to work fast yet cautious.

                not worth it
Very dissapointed in this product. Followed the directions to a T and you can still see blemishes. Maybe you need 2 kits. Waste of money and more importantly time

Let's talk about this! Prior to applying Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating, you want to ensure that any cracks or chips are repaired and filled in. This will ensure a smooth finish, as this product is not intended to be a filler product.

                  Not worth your money
I purchased this product and followed the instructions as directed.Unfortunately, within a week the garage floor coating is already coming off. I haven’t even parked my car in the garage so I can only imagine what will happen once I do that after waiting the 30 day period. Very disappointing!

                    Good product
Good quality but not very thick for 2.5 size garage. Make sure you fill and GRIND cracks so your floor is really smooth before applying.
