Q:Will this paint work for galvanized hog fence panels. Reading up on the steps and what to use, it says to clean, etch, prime, then paint. Also, what primer would we need?

Answer This Question

A:  We're happy to help. Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover General Purpose Paint can be applied to interior non-galvanized metal surfaces. If the surface isn't galvanized there is no need for a primer. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Metallic oil rubbed "bronze" is really black.
Metallic oil rubbed bronze? No, it's black. Maybe a little metallic, but black.

Let’s see if we can figure this out John. Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover Metallic is a heavily pigmented paint so it is important to thoroughly mix the paint to ensure all settled pigment is redistributed. Doing so will ensure for a finish that perfectly matches the lid.

Used on galvanized steel railings. If priming, make sure primer works for galvanized steel (not bare metal!) I thinned with less than 5% of paint thinner and used a 3" roller with 3/8" nap, then brush for spots the roller would not reach. Happy with the result.

        Pretty good paint
Came to home depot to buy a paint because the wife wanted me to paint coffee table smaller table and chair frames. Only thing I found was this paint and I only bought one. With one i was able to do 2 coats on all of the furniture in the pics. The paint is thick and it does smell I used a small roller to paint everything the brush didn't work well believe i needed the sponge like brush. I did light sanding and didn't use primer. Overall pretty good the wife loved it so huge + for me

Used this in my $7 paint spray gun from Harbor Freight and it worked great. I should have thinned it a little with some mineral spirits because it came out a little slow. Color is awesome with some sparkle in the light. I used it to resurface my large Tiki torch.

          Way better than expected!
I was skeptical that the paint would actually look like oil-rubbed bronze but it does! I had two old security gates that were looking sad and worn. Wasn’t sure what to replace them with so I got new doorknobs first then decided to paint the whole thing. Amazing how they turned out! Wasn’t too thick at all and a little goes a long way. I did the two screens and still have over 1/3 of the can left. Finish is more of an eggshell or satin and has shine. And my doors now match the oil-rubbed bronze doorknobs that I purchased. Loving it!

            Terrible - thick heavy paint
1st - Paint is VERY thick, even when brushed on it needs to be thinned - label reads "If thinning is necessary thin material only with mineral spirits or acetone". There is really no question about whether to thin just how much- label says for brush or roller thin max of 5%. I found diping brush in paint then in thinner then in mixing tray worked best. Then you can customize to suit the moment. 2nd - Label says to use "Painters Touch" primer, which is water based and makes no sense to prime surface for an oil based paint. 3rd - Primed surface with a quality oil based primer (KILZ). 4th - Paint applied to overnight cured primer - paint streaked crazily - would hardly stick at all & way to thick. 5th - Attempt to eliminate streaks resulted in runs & sags - & still many light spots. 6th - after 24hrs cure, attempt to remove sags & runs had even crappier results. Not sure if the problems based on wrong primer or just a very finicky paint.

We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to reach us, John. The Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Oil-Rubbed Bronze can technically bond to a substrate without a primer; however, you'd be surprised how much better a top coat will perform with a primer. We only know how our products will work together, but if you're using another brand, it's always good to test to ensure desired results. The product will take 7-10 days to fully cure and sanding may be easier if you allow a little longer dry times. We will be sure your comments are forwarded on. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1 Rustoleum

I love, love, LOVE this paint. I used it on a giant 2 foot tall flower pot I've had for years that was looking a little blah. It looks brand new now! Definitely will be using this on the other 3 matching pots. If you love Rust-oleum Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint but your project would take waaaay too many cans like mine would have, get this paint, you won't be disappointed.

I will add my good review to the others listed. I got the paint to use over an old antique carrousel horse that I had painted authentically years ago. I just wanted a change. It is black/brown...very dark. I am trying to find out what paints I can use over it to achive a rust and moss green patina that will adhere to the oil based paint and that will withstand knocking back the sheen with a little steel wool. It is way too shiny for the look I'm going after. But the color is perfect and the adhesion and ease of use is great. Next I tried it on this old, faded army green outdoor fan that was covered in white blotches of limey looking water stains. It looks like a new indoor fan, which is where I have it...back in the corner of my den to help a limping ac keep the back of the house cool. I was hoping it would make it fade away into the rest of the things back there, but instead it looks like a new contemporary fan. This paint also made my white security sensors on my dark stained doors go away. I don't think my old bright shiny brass bedroom fan will be safe for very long! The possibilities are endless with this paint.
