Questions & Answers

Is this product for indoor use. And pet safe
ByNov 6, 2025

Answer This Question

Ray, we are happy to help! Yes, Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-Based Polyurethane is for indoor use only. Our recommendation is to leave the space well ventilated for one week after coating. This allows for the most complete curing as well as maximum coating hardness. As with any coating product, care should be taken to ensure that accidental ingestion does not occur. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 10

Do I need a sealer first for this product?

    Answer This Question

We're happy to help, John. Before applying Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-Based Polyurethane for Floors to bare wood it is recommended to apply a sanding sealer. We recommend using Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-Based Sanding Sealer for the best compatibility. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Parks-1-gal-Water-Base-Polyurethane-Sanding-Interior-Sealer-258687/202521769 -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

      Answer This Question

Greg, thanks so much for reaching out! No, Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-Based Polyurethane for Floors will not alter the color of the floor; it will provide a clear, colorless, and non-yellowing finish. As always, it is best to do a test application in a small section to ensure the desired result is achieved. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 10

What grit paper do you use to sand between coats

            Answer This Question

Denise, excellent question! You will need to use 120-150 grit sandpaper or a maroon abrasive pad in between the coats. Ensure that the surface is wiped clean with a lightly water-dampened lint-free cloth to remove all dust before applying the next coat. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 10

              Answer This Question

We are here to help! Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-Based Polyurethane for Floors can be applied to a painted wood floor as long as the paint is for floors and is fully cured according to the manufacturer's directions on the label. Answer This Question

Thank you for reaching out, Glenn. While Rust-Oleum Parks Pro Finisher Water-Based Polyurethane for Floors provides a strong finish for floors, it cannot be applied to a shower floor. The full water immersion will cause the finish to blister and peel. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Recently used this product to refinish wood floors from the 50’s in our house. After floor stripper then wood restore. I ended up doing 2 solid coats then . Quick shine floor luster over the top in 3 coats . Super shiny and like brand new . It was a manageable home project once I figured out the 4 steps that I needed to accomplish

                  Terrible product
This product is garbage and I'm very disappointed in Rust-oleum's customer service. The product went on almost pure white. We kept thinking it was tinted so you could see where it had been applied but would dry clear. It did not lighten up at all!! We called customer service and was told to get some denaturated alcohol and it would wipe off and have a clean finish. So we had to go to the store and spend $10 on the alcohol. We had to scrub to get it all off. Just wiping it didn't remove much. It still didn't clear it up it removed the base finish and was left hazy. We called customer service back and was told that there must be moisture either in the wood or applicator and that the type of applicator and how thick it is applied would make a difference. It shouldn't matter how thick or what applicator is involved it should still dry clear. This is pure white!!! We now have to resand the boards and reapply the stain and get a different finish. Customer Service didn't apologize or offer any solutions.

                    Crap!!!
I purchased this brand because Home Depot didn’t have Behr in stock. The guy said it’s the same. This product is absolutely garbage. It’s ruined my project. 4 coats, sanding in between every though it said you don’t have to. Two coats on day 1 and 2 more coats on day 2. This product leaves a lot of bubbles for some reason and it doesn’t dry clear. It has a blue haze. I’m 4 days after final coating and some brown leaves that got on the project last night have permanently stained into the poly. This is ridiculous. I’ve never used such a garbage product before. Do not waste your money unless you want to waste your time sanding it off.

Fast, easy and durable. Excellent self leveling that makes it hard to mess up putting on. Been using on 100+ year old apartment building wood floors 1500 square feet each unit for years. Has protected and even saved wood floors from wear and tear and even flooding. Super satisfied with this product.

                      This stuff is awesome!!
I have just finished sanding some really banged up hardwood floors. And staining them was a challenge. There are a few spots that I was worried about but this product was amazing. My floor looks great. Super easy to use and dries really fast. I will use this again when I am refinishing floors.

                        Ruined my floors
This product is 100 percent garbage. It left milky whits patches on my floors that I had spent over 40 hours prepping and $800 in supplies. DO NOT USE!!! You have been warned

The product goes on ok, however it wears out quickly. We applied the product 4x , with sanding in between and it wears out fast from light traffic. Buy another product and save yourself the extra work!
