A:  Thanks for reaching out! Rust-Oleum Professional Clean Metal Primer can be sanded if desired after it has dried for 24 hours. Make sure to wait another 24 hours after sanding to recoat the surface. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 13

While thinning is not typically needed for most applications, our Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Enamels may be thinned if needed to spray them, or prolong drying. The solvent needed to thin these enamels is acetone; up to 2 pints (32oz.) per gallon, mixing thoroughly. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

        A:  Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Clean Metal Primer can be used over previously painted surfaces. However, you will want to remove any loose or peeling paint, If using over concrete, we recommend testing the surface first for a sealer by performing a splash test. If water beads on the surface when splashed on it, then it means a sealer is present and the primer will not fully adhere. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

          Patio Cover
          I had a metal patio cover put up and they use red primered steel and sheet panels. It looks great but I couldnt paint it until the winter was over so there was rust on most of the steel pieces. I used the Graco truecoat 360 airless sprayer from HD and this paint and it primed amazingly. only surface prep I used was spray washing it before hand to knock out spiders and dirt. Looks great so far.
