Ok to topcoat with rustoleum clear topcoat?

Asked by Rickcl May 9, 2021
1
Answer

Yes, I've actually done this. I hit it very lightly with a fine sandpaper (400 or 600) first, and it came out great.

Is this enamel oil-based, alkyd, acrylic-based or water-based?

Asked by Del April 27, 2021

Answer

Happy to help, Del! Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Enamel Spray Paint is solvent-based and uses alkyd resins. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Answer

Thank you for reaching out! Rust-Oleum Professional High-Performance Enamel Spray Paint can be used under our Stops Rust Hammered Sprays. When applying over the epoxy, we recommend applying in a test area first and lightly sanding the surface to ensure the desired results. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

is this ok to use on outdoor fabric?

Asked by CARRIE March 27, 2021
1
Answer

Hi Carrie, we do not recommend using our Rust-Oleum Professional High-Performance Protective Enamel Spray on fabric surfaces. Instead, we recommend applying our Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric for this project: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-12-oz-Ink-Blue-Outdoor-Fabric-Spray-Paint-6-Pack-369538/314861896 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Can I use it to paint an aluminum shower door frame?

Asked by Danny February 25, 2021
1
Answer

Thank you for reaching out, Danny. We don't recommend applying Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Enamel Spray for a shower door frame because it will not be able to hold up well in an environment with frequent water exposure and high moisture. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Can I use this paint on an aluminum keyboard case? And should I sand the surface before applying it?

Asked by GGspartan318 February 22, 2021
1
Answer

Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Professional High-Performance Enamel Spray Paint is suitable for use on metal surfaces that aren't galvanized. If the surface is galvanized, we recommend first priming with Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Universal Bonding Primer Spray. The surface should be lightly sanded as well to ensure full adhesion. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-12-oz-Universal-Bonding-Primer-Spray-6-Pack-285011/205926957 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Thank you for reaching out! We recommend first priming the handlebars with a primer designed for use over aluminum such as our Rust-Oleum Professional Aluminum Primer Spray prior to applying our Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Enamel Spray: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Professional-15-oz-Flat-White-Interior-Exterior-Aluminum-Primer-Spray-254170/202531910 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Can I use this on an EMCO storm door striker plate that is silver metal? Need to make it white to...

Asked by Kosmo December 10, 2020
1
Answer

Thank you for reaching out! Our Rust-Oleum Professional High-Performance Enamel may be used to coat this striker plate and make an even, white color to match the trim. Since the striker plate is subject to repeated metal on metal scraping, the paint should be allowed to fully cure for 7 days prior to use. This application may wear more quickly than other surfaces due to the friction and metal on metal wear and tear, and a reapplication may be needed in the future to refresh the finish. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

how is it for striping parking lots

Asked by rara December 9, 2020
1
Answer

Thanks for reaching out Rara. Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Protective Enamel Spray Paint is standard spray paint, it is not suitable for striping parking lots. For that we recommend using Rust-Oleum Professional Inverted Striping Paint, this paint must be used in a striping machine. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Professional-18-oz-Flat-White-Inverted-Striping-Spray-Paint-2593838/100179737 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

Great for vehicle tow hooks
Used this to paint my truck tow hooks and it looks great. I have an all black truck with red accents and my tow hooks were black and had a few rust spots. I took the hooks off the truck, sanded out the rust and nicks, cleaned them with a degreaser and then rubbing alcohol and got them really dry. Then I hung the hooks and painted them using this Rust-oleum High Performance Enamel in Safety Red. They came out awesome! The red really pops and the enamel paint has not gotten scratched at all during re-install, in car washes, or while driving for the past few weeks. The paint is very strong and was very easy to spray without runs. I did not use a primer, but have had no issues with adhesion, bubbling, or anything else at this point. I sprayed 3 very light coats before I had full coverage and then I did 5 more slightly thicker coats after that to get a nice thick enamel over the hooks. The spray worked great from many different angles and I had plenty of paint left when I was done. Highly recommend this product!

This is my go-to paint for outdoor projects like patio tables or decor because it has more paint in the can and dries to the touch fast, allowing for a second coat quickly. The slightly higher cost is worth the extra volume of paint and faster turnaround time on projects. I painted this plant stand with 2 coats in one day and waited until the next day to hang my plants.

bubbled finish
I bought 3 cans of this paint a table and chair set. The launt doesnt go far so i had to buy three additional cans. Upon spraying a secind coat, all of the paint bubbled terribly. In addition, it is impossible to get a steady color on the table top. I spent hours painting and sanding and repainting and spent $40 on paint. Now I’m hauling the table and chair set out by the road for the garbage to pick up. I have never seen such a terrible spray paint and all of my life.

Let's talk about this! If applying Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Enamel Spray Paint over a porous surface like bare wood or onto a surface with a lot of open spaces, the coverage rate will decrease. We also recommend applying several, light even coats to ensure the best finish. Please keep in mind, this product has a recoat window of within 1 hour or after 48 hours. Recoating before the film has time to dry more can cause wrinkling when recoating. To correct this, you can sand the wrinkled or bubbled areas, wait 48 hours and then recoat.

I used it to spray the rims on my car and I like the outcome but you have to prime it by spraying a little far from the item you are spraying and finishing it, spraying a little closer to get the shine

That is not what we like to hear! If paint begins to build up on the tip of the spray nozzle, it may cause sputtering or dripping on the surface, and we recommend wiping the nozzle clean with a rag if build up is noticed to prevent this. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum
