Applies well, seems to leave a good finish, it is a matte finish. They make a bright finish spray also, but the three cans I tried of that clotted off the spray nozzle almost immediately. I've used this version on 2 projects so far, probably a total of 10 cans and none of the spray nozzles clotted. There is quite a bit of overspray, so be prepared for that. I let the paint dry for several days in the 100 degree heat and there was still an almost chalky silver residue that came off when I rubbed the painted metal

great so far - except for nozzle & lower coverage than expected
I got this to repair some corrugated galvanized steel that I plan to put up against a chainlink fence. The steel I'm using used to be a roof and has some patches of light rust on it. I got this spray to cover the rusty areas, however only covering the rust made some of the sheets look too splotchy, so I went and covered the entire 36" x 72" sheet on two of them. I was able to get a nice, uniform gray color which looked good, clean, and uniform. It made me think I might paint all the sheets so the panels would look consistent and even, even though that means covering the nice patina that has developed over time. However, it took one whole can to do one side of these two sheets and the misc rusts spots on about 7 other sheets. I went back to the store today to get two more cans, and to finish the other side of these two sheets of metal. The nozzle on both cans I bought today kept splattering out irregular drips, which caused me to have to go back and add more paint to cover them up. This has made it impossible to get a uniformly painted look, and caused me to use more material than necessary. I do not know how to tell a good can from a bad can when I go to the store - they look the exact same. I followed directions both days so I am not sure what is different or what I was doing wrong. It is frustrating. I know to get a uniform look I would have to go back and paint the entire sheet from top to bottom; but that is impossible to do if the spraycan continues to spray out new random thick drips and splatter when I try to do it. This problem is causing my project to take more time and cost more money than expected. So I don't think I'll bother painting all of my panels. This would be a good product if the nozzle worked properly and it covered more material. Not sure how long it will hold up or look in a few years though.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and providing this feedback using our Rust-Oleum Professional Cold Galvanizing Compound Spray. We expect each of these cans to cover approximately 10-12 ft². Sputtering may be caused by solids collected at the bottom of the can, or paint build-up on the tip of the nozzle. Shaking thoroughly prior to, and periodically during use will ensure the solids in the can are evenly and completely mixed for even spraying. If a build-up of coating is noticed on the tip of the nozzle, this excess should be wiped from the nozzle before continuing to spray, as this build-up will cause sputtering, or droplets to fall on the application surface. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

I'm using new galvanized heavy gauge steel stand-off post mounts used to bolt 6x6 pressure treated 12' posts to the concrete slab floor in my steel building, to support a storage loft. Use squares of 3-ply conveyor belt of material to isolate the galvanized mounts from the damp concrete floor. To extend the life of the steel post mounts I clean them with acetone and apply several coats of this Rust-Oleum's Cold Galvanizing spray. Nine, so far. Each coat is thick, is rock hard tough when dry, and holds up to the installation of 5/8" galvanized bolts. The spray compound is thick with zinc, smooth, not sandy, and would make older galvanized fencing and posts or mailboxes, etc., look new. . I will use this for more projects, scratched painted steel, lawn mower decks, etc., in my Florida humid air. Five stars.

Good product for general use as long as it is not messed with
I buy this Rust-Oleum brand when I cannot buy the more expensive ZRC cold galvanizing compound at a welding shop that has limited hours. This is a better deal for projects that will not be touched by anything like ceilings and high walls since the product does scratch of easily. It gains a little more scratch resistance after it is cured but it does not hold up as well to the ZRC brand as well. I found out about the ZRC brand since I work in industrial construction and that is what the steel workers use for touching up pipe racks and other hot dipped steel. Overall Rust-Oleum should be good for most general applications and if it scratches off just repaint that spot (3 stars for that since the other brand is much more scratch resistant).

I've bought 12 cans of this spray. 8 out of 12 were great and the other 4 cans wouldn't work. I still have them, full of galvanizing compound, with no way to get it out of there. Very disappointed in this product!
