Questions & Answers

Q:Can a flow agent, like Floetrol or Paint Easy (this is not a thinner) for latex paint be added to make it floe better in a sprayer.

Answer This Question

A:  We appreciate your interest! While Rust-Oleum RockSolid 2x Solid Stain is designed to be applied using a brush or roller, it may also be sprayed using an HVLP sprayer and a nozzle large enough to spray latex paint that has not been thinned; as we do not recommend thinning this coating. We do not recommend adding other additives to the paint either. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:I am resurfacing my boat pier with the 20X resurface. Does Rust-Oleum have an untextured paint in the Autumn Brown that I can use for the boat pier posts and fascia?

    Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Pamela! Rust-Oleum RockSolid 2X Solid Stain is offered in the same colors as our 20X Resurfacer. The 2X Solid Stain does not have a texture and can be used on the posts and fascia. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:can you thin out this paint?

      Answer This Question

A:  We hate to disappoint, Cindy, but the Rust-Oleum RockSolid 2x Solid Stain is not designed to be used with thinning. Doing so could cause issues with the recommended thickness that it should be applied in order to perform properly. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

Q:I am considering using this paint for some patio chairs however it's dummer here; teperature is 90F+ after 6 AM. What will this do to the paint as it cures?
        by|Jul 3, 2023
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for reaching out. Rust-Oleum RockSolid 2X Solid Stain should be applied only when the surface and air temperature is between 40-90°F and will remail between that temperature for at least 24 hours after application. When the temperature exceeds 90°F, 2X Solid Stain will cure too fast, this can affect adhesion and durability of the dried film. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

          WASTE OF MONEY
This is trash and should no longer be sold it used to be called (Deck Restore) until Rust Oleum settled a law suit against them, they changed the name to Rock Solid but is the same trash. Followed their directions last year and this spring it is all peeling off just like the original name of Deck Restore! Run as fast as you can from this product or you can have a nice peeling deck like ours!
Looks great, for about a year
Easy and thick to apply, great finish. However, after a year now many spots are chipping/bubbling up, even after prepping and priming the decking prior to two coats of application. would still recommend though as it is a great color and finish (on what's not chipping)

Something is amiss here, Jeff. To ensure the best adhesion with the Rust-Oleum RockSolid 2X Solid Stain, it is critical that the surface is prepped thoroughly according to the product label instructions. We need to know more about your experience to get to the bottom of this. Please call us at 800-373-6333 to discuss further. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum

              Love this stain!
The company, is always their to answer your question. I used this on a new deck. It does have to have two coats, with the primer. Also painted a flower container, to match the deck. The smell isn’t strong, and looks nice. Easy to use!

Hmm, something's amiss here. We're very surprised that you're not getting an even coverage with the Rust-Oleum Rocksolid 2x Solid Stain. Generally, you would only need to apply a coat to the surface, but if the wood is more porous, additional coats may be required. Let's see if we can try to help you! Please consider reaching us at (800) 373-6333 to discuss. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1 Rustoleum
