Q:If this is being used indoors in a basement, is there any prep work aside from sweeping the floor? I saw the website said to not Etch if indoors
by|Mar 19, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Happy to clear things up! If applying Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating to a basement floor, and it will not be exposed to any type of vehicle traffic, then etching is not required. The floor still needs to be cleaned and also degreased as needed to ensure there is nothing on the surface to prevent the coating from properly adhering. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

    Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Carlos. Rust-Oleum RockSolid Polycuramine Garage Floor Coating can be applied to indoor wood floors, such as a shed wood floor. To prep the wood floor, using 80 grit sandpaper, sand wood surface to remove mil glaze, sealers and/or varnishes. Vacuum and wipe clean with a dry rag before coating. Complete surface prep and application instructions are included in each kit. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

A:  I found that if the wood floor is very stable and does not flex and also is sealed without holes or cracks that would let the product drain away it can be done. Hope others answer because I would like to hear more ideas about making it work.

A:  Yes, all floors are slippery when wet. Once it drys, it drys leaving a hard high gloss finish durable surface. I would recommend this product.

A:  Thank you for reaching out, James. Rust-Oleum RockSolid Metallic Garage Floor Coatings register as having slip resistance using an American Slip Meter test, and it also meets ADA requirements. However, with any coated floor, care should be taken when the floor is wet. For a more skid resistant, finish, we recommend adding Rock-Solid Anti-Slip Additive to the final coat of your garage floor application. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-RockSolid-8-oz-Anti-Skid-Additive-12-Pack-60111/205610154?keyword=rocksolid+anti - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  It can be if you walk on it with flip-flops or crocs that don't have any tread. The chips that you spread will offer some grip but it is not a fully textured floor.

Q:So the Epoxy Product can be done in two sections, half the garage and then the other half the next day or week, but the Rocksolid product cannot. Is that correct. I have to move the stuff in my garage to one side to do this so i need two steps.

              Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for reaching out. Each Rust-Oleum RockSolid Polycuramine Garage Floor Kit includes 2 easy burst pouches. Half of the garage floor can be prepped and coated, the second half of the garage can then be coated at a later time. We recommend waiting at least 24-36 hours before moving garage contents onto the newly painted section of the garage. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

                Will not cover area stated.
I did my garage floor with the rock solid dark gray and chips came out great 2.5 garage floor kit. Went back and wanted to seal in the chips so I decided to coat with the clear. Followed directions to a "T" and the rock solid clear kit 2.5 garage floor. It did not even cover 2/3 of the 2 car garage floor. Only 1/2 the material. If Rustoleum does not make good and contact me and send another bab of material. I will never by a Rustoleum product again. Very upset. D

We want to try to help, Dave! When applying Rust-Oleum RockSolid Clear Garage Floor Coating over a coated surface, the recommended coverage is 450-500 square feet. Applying a heavier coat will also lessen this coverage amount. If wanting further assistance, please give us a call at 888-683-5667 to talk with us!

Do not go for Tan or Mocha color.
I selected Mocha color for my garage floor, which was a big mistake. I have a small garage [ 360 sq. ft.] and use the whole 2.5-car garage kit but still, the coverage was a challenge. Also after the job was done I could see spots where the bare floor [ grey spot] started to appear, at the time when the epoxy was being applied there were zero gaps and it all looked perfectly good. Cleaning was done thoroughly 3 times and application was done by professional painters. This is no way 2.5 car kit.

We need to know more to get to the bottom of this. Rust-Oleum RockSolid Polycuramine Garage Floor Coating has excellent coverage and hide when applied as detailed in the enclosed instructions, if applied too thin, bare spots may be visible. Concrete is a porous substrate, with porosity varying from floor to floor. The more porous the concrete means more of whatever is being applied will soak into and bond with the concrete. Give us a call at 888-683-5667.

                    Already chipping at 3 months
I purchased this a dark gray kit and a clear coat kit and 3 months later it’s already peeling. I ground the floor down with an angle grinder, then applied the Rustoleum primer. 3 months later it is already peeling. I contacted Rustoleum and they offered no help. The rep said that the most they could do is send a touch up kit. Absolutely unacceptable. Do not buy!

DO NOT BUY - The coverage is VERY UNDERESTIMATED
It took THREE AND A HALF kits (each kit is supposed to cover two and a half car garage) to cover my two-car garage. Kits colors did not match and made the floor look ugly. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. DO NOT BUY - The coverage is VERY UNDERESTIMATED

This is not what we expect to hear! The Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating 2.5 Car Kit has a recommended coverage up to 450-500 square feet. This will be dependent on the condition of the surface and how thick the coating is applied. Older or more textured concrete will lower the coverage rate, and applying thicker than 2.5 mils, or the thickness of three dollar bills, will also lower this amount. If needing further assistance, please give us a call at (888) 683-5667.

                        Amazing Product
I don't usually write reviews but I've been so happy with this product that I felt compelled to write a review for this product. I've used this product on 5 separate projects over the past 5 years or so and I've been pleased with all of them. Frankly when I see a product with a 3 of 5 average rating as a consumer I'd have some concerns. I'm a retired Civil engineer so I have considerable experience with coatings and concrete and in my opinion, this product is hands down a 5. I've never experienced any of the pealing or other serious failure issues reported by other reviewers. 90% of the application work is in the prep. It's best to apply the coating after the concrete is cured, but when the concrete is as new as possible (but at least 30 days after placement). You can use degreaser but you can never really get grease or soaked in oil out of the concrete so it's best to coat it before it gets stained or dirty. This is also true with road salt. Once the salt soaks into the the concrete, it is possible, and maybe even likely that it will effect the coating bond and cause peeling as salt crystals and moisture from under the slab and coating push the coating off. In general, I think it's a bit unfair for reviewers to blame the coating for surface conditions that can't really be rectified. I've used the the previous epoxy coating products in gallon pails and by comparison, the pouches they use now are a significant application improvement. No messy paint buckets, sticks or trays. And with the pouches, no real concerns about unmixed zones of product making it onto the floor and not curing. Just burst the interior pouch barrier, need the pouch, clip the pouch corner, and pour the paint out in ribbons directly onto the floor for rolling. I will concede that they are pretty stingy with the volume of paint you get, and that the price stings a bit. But compared to paying a professional $5K or more to coat the floor, the Rocksolid kit cost is a steal, even if you have to buy an extra 1.5 car kit to finish the job. Unless your are really certain about the condition of your floor and how much paint you need, I recommend buying the 2.5 car kit for a two car garage along with the 1.5 car kit. You can return the 1.5 car kit if you don't use it, but once you start the project you want to be sure you have enough paint to finish the project. The concrete finish (surface texture) can significantly effect the amount of paint needed and coverage rates. The product is 2 part chemically cured. Once mixed you have to use the product in the allotted time. All in all it's a great product that I have had great results with and can recommend to others without reservation. '

This is not what we expect to hear, Pankaj! An uneven appearance can be caused by improper mixing or moisture on the surface. Not enough. Mystery patches !
Pleased with the overall outcome. Only time will tell on longevity. Two gripes ; (1) both the primer (recoat primer) and Rocksolid floor coating kit (2.5 car kit) lacked on coverage. For my 485 sq. ft garage, I ended up using 1/2 extra from a 1-car kit (the other half solidified eventually and went to waste), (2) "mystery' patches (uncoated areas - primer showing through) were seen the next day - these areas were coated at first (I would have noticed during the application process, if not), and was part of the first burst mix pouch. During inspection the next day, these mystery patches were seen. Is there a "make-up" patch kit available?

                              Peeled within 2 weeks
Followed all the recommended prep work and instructions. Even bought the special rust oleum concrete primer. Waited a week to put my car in the garage just to make sure and within a few days I started getting peeling underneath one of the tires. Also the first packet of paint came out in two different colors. Lots of work for it to start peeling immediately is really disappointing.

This is not what we expect to hear! If applying Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating to bare concrete, the primer is not needed. If using the primer, the floor does still need to be etched and the primer needs to be topcoated within the recommended time frame. Please give us a call at 800-481-4785 to talk with us, if further assistance is needed.

                                Glue peeled the epoxy
We’ve only had this on our garage floor for about 8 months now. Earlier this week,we bought new patio furniture which we unboxed in the garage. The boxes were adhered shut with glue. We were unaware that one of the box lids was facedown on the ground. The next morning my husband was loading the trash for the dump and one of the pieces was stuck to the floor. As he pulled it off, the epoxy came up with it. Now to figure out how to fix it! We cut the lifted edges in hopes it won’t get worse.

                                  Poor chemistry
Realistically 2.5 Garage Kit only covers 1.5 garage flooring. That being said, there are lots of chunks in the mixing pouch, probably the coloring powder that won’t mix with the poly. I will post some pictures of what the chunks end up looking like once they are on your garage floor. I had to scrape these off because they don’t harden like the rest of the mix. I will need to order another 1 car kit to finish my floors. Very disappointed!
