        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out, Carl. You would need to follow the same level of surface preparation for concrete floors provided in the application instructions of the Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating Kit. Keep in mind that the concrete would need to fully cure first before this product can be applied, which can typically be 30 days. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

The video’s on how to apply this product are straight forward. If you do not put the effort into the prep work then you will probably be one of the people leaving a comment about how you had issues. This is just like doing body work and painting on a car but it’s a floor, so it’s even easier. Get the spike shoes because if you put it on to thick, it will off gas and you will come back to small bubbles.

Great glossy coat. Make sure you apply it pretty thick, I didn't in a couple of spots and it doesn't look as glossy in those areas. Also if you are going to do a larger area and use the flakes, I highly suggest using the spike shoe slip- on, which allows you to walk on the wet epoxy and apply the flacks more consistently. Good luck

One year in, and not very impressed.
I had a new garage built about 18 months ago and decided I was going to use this product plus the clear coat due to the value and relatively good reviews. Concrete was allowed to cure and I completed the prep necessary (diamond grind concrete, plus acid etching). After thoroughly cleaning the floor and allowing it to dry, I picked a nice cool day to start putting the coating down. First issue: I immediately noticed that the coating was starting to bubble, and back rolling wasn't helping much. I ended up having A LOT of bubbles throughout the floor. Second issue: This coating does not seem to be very durable or bond to, what I believe is properly prepared concrete well. I use my garage for working on cars occasionally, and any dropped socket or bolt chip the coating. The coating also scratches easily. Dragging a plastic tote or storage bin across the floor has left marks in the coating. Overall, if i had to do it again, I would probably use a different product. Or at least use a primer to help prevent the bubbling issue, maybe double up on the clear coat or use an alternate clear coat that is more durable.

That is not what we like to hear, Stan! Bubbles developing in the coating can be caused by concrete outgassing, as air is expelled from the concrete as it warms up. To prevent this from occurring, we recommend applying the first coat early in the morning, or later in the evening when the concrete will remain cool. Please give us a call at 888-683-5667, we want to get to the bottom of this and make things right! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

Overall the product applied well, only time will tell if it’ll last though. Would be a 5 star product but I used 2,000 sq/ft of product in a 700sq/ft garage. Had to buy an extra single car garage to finish the stem walls. This coating is all about the prep work though, I rented a concrete diamond topped floor grinder to get the best adhesion. I also went for a full chip looked so ordered a lot of paint chips from a different company as well. Love the finish and it seems tough so far.

This wasn't easy to put on. The supplied rollers that came with the kits fell apart before we were finishing putting weird scrapes and designs in the wet paint. In some spots the paint was too thin and wasn't noticeable until dry. Overall we have a floor that is shiny and potentially a little more durable than before. But plan on having atleast 3 guys for a 2.5 stall garage. I could have used 5 guys for the shop floor that 2 guys and an 8 year old kid did.

As others have said, it's all about the prep. Rolling it out is simple and quick once all the prep is done. My concrete was not new and the previous owner had applied some kind of clear coat. It was not a good epoxy since I could cause it to dissolve and become sticky with strong solvents such as BrakeKleen and acetone. But it would not remove with any of the degreasers or cleaners. Well I wasn't gonna subject myself to the odors with cleaning 800 sq ft with either of those so I ended up renting a floor "grinder' which is similar to a floor sander but uses pumice type sanding blocks to at least scuff up the surface. The relief joints in some places had done their job and opened up quite a bit (1/2"). I don't like rolling the engine hoist over these gaps so I filled all the joints with grout. I know they don't recommend coating the joints but I did and they look fine. They may crack down the road but I'm OK with that. The large 360 oz pack covered the 800 sq ft with zero left. I didn't come with a foam roller and I couldn't find a foam roller so went with a nap roller. It worked fine except that I have a few little bumps in the finish that I think may be little pieces of nap but could be something else. Very glossy finish compared to historical concrete epoxy I've used. As feared there are two places where the epoxy "beaded" slightly I believe due to the clear coat that I couldn't fully removed. I am hopeful that there won't be any future "peeling" of the coating due to poor adhesion. Certainly with a clean well prepped concrete surface this stuff is great, I just couldn't justify any more time and expense trying to remove the previous coating. Within 4 days of coating I moved in my floor jacks, engine hoist, benches, etc. and saw very little surface damage (scratches in gloss). Within a week pulled a motor and of course spilled coolant and oil with no issues on cleanup.Rolling the engine hoist with metal wheels and an engine hanging now doesn't hurt the finish so appears that for me 4 days was a little early to drag metal things across.

Did my floor twice . done it both times mixing the colors all together and keep stirring it every time like the company told me. Still came out both times with different colors . Had no problem with the Epoxy shield. I could see if I’ve never done this before but I’ve done plenty and should’ve stuck to the Epoxy shield. This stuff is definitely not Do it yourself project for people who never done it. Very disappointed $1000 plus tons of hrs and prep work . Now looking at re-doing it .I’m fussy and I can’t live with it

Color variances are caused by either the porosity of the concrete or the proper mixing of the product. Temperatures and humidity can also play a role in the color variance of the Rust-Oleum RockSolid Polycuramine Floor Coating. It's important to make sure you're mixing the product well to avoid any concerns. We want to try to help make this right. Please call us at (888) 683-5667 to discuss. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1 Rustoleum

I have used this product before. It mixes easily in the 2 compartment bag. We used a roller pan to load the roller. That method seems to obtain the stated square footage. Temperature is a factor for curing. When cool it takes longer. Lots of great comments. Very durable surface once completed.

Excellent product, if you are looking to do a larger space, this is the best way to purchase this product. My wife and I followed the manufacturers directions, and covered about 1400 square foot , we did purchase 2 kits and had some left over.
