A:  We're happy to help, Peggy. Yes, Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit can be applied over previously painted tile surfaces. Before applying it is necessary to scuff sand the surface to help build a surface profile to help with the adhesion of the primer. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

Q:Can this be used over Coriander shower walls

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out, Terri. While Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit can be applied to tile surfaces Corian shower walls are manufactured in a way that may hinder paint adhesion. Be sure to scuff sand the surface to build a surface profile to help promote paint adhesion. We also recommend applying a small test application to an inconspicuous area to ensure the results are as desired. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

        Works better than other brand
You have to clean the tub, sand it a bit too. Use a brush to apply it along edges but go over it with foam roller.

          It worked great
this is thin, like painting with nail polish. Get a good brush and be prepared to throw it away afterwards and 1/4 inch foam nap on a 4 inch roller with a pelican bucket worked best for me. watch for drips, I used a headlamp to get ahead of the drips

Works great on tile, tub is a different story
This stuff is very thin, even when mixed well it runs more than paint, this isn’t a problem on the tile, it worked great (Even though you will need 4 coats). However the issue is because it’s thin it runs down the tub over time and completely ruined the finish between each coat. It won’t even coat certain areas because it won’t stay. Good for tile, bad for tub.

              Works Great!
This is a great way for a cheap, easy to apply and durable upgrade to your tub and tile. Two kits should cover the tub and tile in a medium bath, I had extra and also did the bath vanity counter. I would make sure to have plenty of ventilation and wait the 72 hours for a good, solid cure. Have some mineral spirits/turpentine at the ready and cover your tub drain before starting. It applied dark, but lightened up a bit as it dried. The fumes were horrible, keep pets/kids/elderly far away!

                Quick to dry
This does go on very watery. Given that it drips. Remember it is also drying and hardening quickly. So get those drips wiped up quick! I have a few spots that dripped and dried like that as I was painting other spots. Lesson learned. My walls were darker so I used three coats. But still, all in all it was under a $200 job. Originally I was going to have the walls and tub ripped out and have a standing shower put in. But after the estimates were between 7,000 and 11,000 this was the way to go.

Rust-oleum loses a customer after this product
This tub and tile kit is a complete fail. Positives - coverage was “decent” over pink shower tiles after 2 but will likely need a third. color is true white and gloss looks good, odor is tolerable. Negatives - instructions vague such as “abrasive pad” , same goes for roller i had mine start to shed kid use despite being “premium” -instructions false as they state 70-110 sq ft with 2 coats while i did not even get 50 sq ft out of it so i had to run to the store mid dry time to get a second kit,

                    Happy with results
Used this on my kitchen back splash. The tile was very dark and out of date. Absolutely love the results. I did use 3 coats and still have some left over for any touch ups!

This product updated my bathtub and surround in one day at a really low cost! It worked exactly as described, and came out looking perfect! This was a pretty easy project and I did the entire thing myself (60 year old woman). I did make an effort to get all surfaces sanded properly and keep the area clean. But having done that, I got a smooth and shiny finish. I used a small foam roller, and that seemed to work well. Two coats were enough for good coverage although I had to buy a second kit because my tub/surround included walls and ceiling so it required a little more paint. I’ve only had my “new” tub/shower for a couple of weeks so I can’t speak to the durability, but it sure looks great!

First time user DIY for this product. Used in primary bathroom. First, Be prepared for the fumes. Box fan was used to draw out the fumes into the bedroom with open windows. Isolated the bedroom for 48 hours. If you have small children/pets keep them away from the location entirely. Without a ventilation plan the fumes will fill the house. I wore a respirator mask with a NIOSH with organic vapor canisters. A good mask is a must and I wore plastic gloves. I used a small foam roller which I don’t recommend as the foam roller started to break apart on the 2nd coat. The foam roller appears to have created small bubbles upon application as well. When mixing product mix well. It will appear very runny at first but overrime the paint changes consistency slightly thicker. Very little dripping of the paint overtime. The paint doesnt set instantly so you dont feel rushed. I painted top down which was easier. 2nd coat is harder to do because you cant stand in tub. If you miss a spot during the 2nd coat it will be obvious!! I included a picture where I missed a spot! The product covered two coats on a 32” tub/shower with 60” fiberglass walls. My tub is 19 years old. I would have given 5 stars if the kit included the right roller

                        Easy tub and Shower restoration
This was easier than I thought it would be. I opted to do my tub and shower in one weekend. Luckily, I have an additional bathroom to use while the finish cured. Between my tub and shower I used 2 1/2 kits. My shower required more product than I estimated. Still not a bad price to pay compared to the alternative. Pro tip use foam rollers with a long handle and allow the mixture to sit 10 to 15 minutes before painting. Also use an orbital sander to cut down on prep.
