why is it that after I spray a base lacquer coat then use the clear lacquer to top coat it bubble...

why is it that after I spray a base lacquer coat then use the clear lacquer to top coat it bubbles up and crackles the base coat this has happened numerous times I have tried the straight enamel, the acrylic enamel, acrylic lacquer ,I use the same type base paint to match the clear top coat ???

Thank you for reaching out! What you are describing sounds like a solvent wrinkling reaction, which can occur if the previous coat begins to dry and skin over, but the second coat is applied before this skin is thick enough to prevent the solvents from breaking through. Lacquer coatings typically contain more of these types of solvents, which helps them dry very fast, but will also cause wrinkling when applied over an enamel, or other type of coating if applied at the wrong time. Our Rust-Oleum Specialty Lacquer sprays may be recoated at any time, however, an enamel would need to fully cure, which may take 7-10 days depending on the drying conditions. Rated 5 out of 5 by from easy black lacqer finish I think everyone likes that color becauae there are so many antiques and ceramic pieces that are black lacqer finish and this one is super simple. The price makes it easier also. The fact that one can will cover about what they show on the can, one chair, might get you to want to do something else but, to make your chair or as I use them, on small wooden cabinets, give off the gloss of lacquer finish with the ease of spray painting a dog house, I set either plastic sheeting or just news paper on the work bench and throw it away and I have never had it leak through. Also, you almost have to try to get this stuff to pool up. With brass hinges and knobs it looks wonderful.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful I found an old accent chest and purchased this paint to cover the lid. I sanded the entire piece and sprayed this on. Like other reviews said, it is incredibly inconsistent. Despite shaking the can frequently and cleaning the spray nozzle, this paint pools in one area and skips another area, and starts dribbling and spitting everywhere. After finally getting an acceptable finish and letting it dry, nearly through the entire piece across the garage after the dried paint lifted from the lid in one giant, stretchy, rubbery piece. I wanted a super high gloss black and this would have been perfect if it wasn't such a poor product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product, overlapping is most important! This lacquer works as advertised. The key is to be patient and overlap more than you think. Keeping wet edge is the key to a good finish. I had coffee table top that was 24"x42". First couple of coats were like everyone else's, streaky! I slowed way down and overlapped like crazy, last 2 coats were perfect. Hope this helps.

I wanted a super high gloss finish on some wood furniture and after two coats of primer I was so excited to try the black lacquer. I had to go through 4 cans just to coat a small headboard and foot-board for a bed. It spits the spray out inconsistently and puddles and drips. Also, the nozzle sprays a very thin stream, only covers about a quarter of an inch, so if you're looking to cover a wide surface it's a huge pain. The finished product looks patchy, and it pools and drips all over. Super dissatisfied with Rust-Oleum on this one. :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful paint Please don't bu this product. The bad reviews above are true. It sprays a band about 1/2 in wide of gloss and then dull bands on either side of that. I keep painting coats, but I cannot get a non-streaky finish. I have painted tons using spray paint, but I will never try spray can lacquer again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Having trouble with it I bought this product to re-paint my dinning room table, and it has been a horrible mistake. I have already been through 3 or 4 cans, and need another 2. This stuff is not easy to work with and leaves tiger lines everywhere no matter what I do. Also when you start thinking everything is going good it spits and sputters little drips all over your work, making it a real pain to fix. Overall I will not ever use this product again, and I am trying to figure a way to fix all the wrong doing that it has caused me.
