I have an outdoor steel fireplace. Can I use your product on it?

Asked by: Newyard18
This cannot be used where exposed fire will contact the paint. You can use it on the outside of the fireplace, however.

I don't see why not but just to be sure, you should probably call the manufacturer.

Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint is not considered flame retardant and should not be used in directly contact with flame.

does it work on aluminum????

Asked by: arpiar
Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint is suitable for use on properly prepared metal surfaces. To prepare the surface, remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and allow to thoroughly dry. Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Previously coated surfaces must be sound and in good condition. Smooth, hard, or glossy finishes should be scarified by sanding to create a surface profile.

12 oz. Bar-B-Que Black Satin High Heat Spray Paint is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 84.

Burned one fire in it so that any sealant or loose paint would come off, then the next day I resprayed the tub. Burned a fire in it for about 3 hours, maybe a little less. Had a few glowing red spots on the side. This paint cracked where it was glowing red, but everything else was fine and the cracked paint did not flake off! So this should help my camping fire pit last much longer.

It dries do quickly you can put 4 or 5 coats on is a matter of a couple of hours. If you have something that’ll get a lot of wear, apply multiple coats, let it dry 5-7 days before using and it’s like new

I found this fire pit on the side of the road, presumably because it was all rusted over. I did a quick clean with a wire brush then used this can of spray paint to paint it black. Looks just like new!! Amazing!!

After a year of use only the hot spots have turned white. ( not sure why, multiple coats and thermal reading maxing out at 800 degrees Fahrenheit) burnt the paint off. BUT this was probably at the hotter end of its intended use, so not bad overall. Find something better for indoor wood burners. Probably works fine for other things.

I am no pro but I have done a fair amount of painting on various surfaces in my life and this paint is one of the worst I have ever used. I was trying to paint a fireplace glass door frame. I sanded the surface, thoroughly cleaned it , then sprayed outdoors in up 70s with low humidity and held the can about 12 -16 inches from the surface. Like I have read in reviews here and other places, the paint results in a chalky surface and comes off when you touch it our rub your hand across it. It doesn't completely come off, but it leaves black dust on anything that touches it and leaves a mark on the surface were you touch it. I called the factory and they said you must heat it to 450F for 1 hour. Even though it says nothing of the sort on the can, I disassembled the frame and put the smaller pieces in the oven. It didn't really seem to help. Also I have seen Rustoleum representatives on here claim 200F and 250F with no time mentioned in responses to reviews on here, and then one said 250F for an hour. It is odd the can doesn't mention this at all and every rep seems to have a different temperature that is required.
