I have an outdoor steel fireplace. Can I use your product on it?

Asked by: Newyard18
This cannot be used where exposed fire will contact the paint. You can use it on the outside of the fireplace, however.

I don't see why not but just to be sure, you should probably call the manufacturer.

Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint is not considered flame retardant and should not be used in directly contact with flame.

Customer Reviews

12 oz. High Heat Satin Bar-B-Que Black Spray Paint is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 89.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Grill Refurbish Decided to refurbish the old grill which had an aluminum cook box with faded paint and some pitting. I gave it a sanding (to bare metal in places) and sprayed this on without any other primer. It sprays well and covers well to give a smooth coat. It provided enough paint for a couple of coats on a small, two-burner sized box, side shelf supports, and some touch-up of the grill base which had some rust. I can't yet say how tough a finish it will be since it has been gently handled to-date. Don't expect a factory-level finish - I suspect it will scratch and scuff somewhat easily, but only time will tell.

I was looking to refinish/restore a rusting fire pit to like new condition and this paint turned out to be exactly what I needed. After removing the rust, a single coat coat, spread on liberally, is all that was required to get my fire pit ready for another reason. I find one can is sufficient to cover a single fire pit - which is perfect. I even refinished the inside of the fire pit. Even though it warns not to paint the area in direct exposure to flame, I find it holding up quite well to the heat. The 'only' reason, and I mean the 'only' reason this product doesn't get all five stars is because of limited color-choice. Other colors are available, but it bulk.

I found this fire pit on the side of the road, presumably because it was all rusted over. I did a quick clean with a wire brush then used this can of spray paint to paint it black. Looks just like new!! Amazing!!

I had an existing brass fireplace screen around my wood burning fireplace and my wife wanted to paint it black. We had looked at options and ended up settling on this. We used some de-glosser first and then painted the screen with this stuff and it covered and worked great. We are very happy with the results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dried in mid air Today was a hot day so perhaps that is the cause of the problem I had with this paint. It seemed to go on like a matte finish powder rather than as "sticky" paint. I eventually held the can really close to the grill and it still did not go on like normal spray paint. I waited a couple of hours and I rubbed my hand across the grill and my hand was full of black powder. Tomorrow I'll wash the grill and see if any paint actually stays on it.

Burned one fire in it so that any sealant or loose paint would come off, then the next day I resprayed the tub. Burned a fire in it for about 3 hours, maybe a little less. Had a few glowing red spots on the side. This paint cracked where it was glowing red, but everything else was fine and the cracked paint did not flake off! So this should help my camping fire pit last much longer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from alternative use I use this to re paint the wrought iron window grills and wrought furniture in the yard. It holds up to the heat better and I don't have to worry about how close to the fire pit or grill the chairs get. In AZ. regular glossy enamel paints fade too quickly.

The label does say "Bar-B-Que paint" and it probably works fine for that use but be careful if you're tempted to use this for anything else I used this on .062" aluminum sheet that I sanded with 80 grit orbital sander. After applying 2 wet coats in 70 degree weather and letting dry I scuff sanded with 500 grit to get a nice final finish coat and was surprised how easily I sanded down to the metal with only light sanding pressure. The viscosity is thin and the finish is kind of chalky. I'm not saying it's a bad product but it doesn't apply like or provide a finish like regular enamel
