Not good even if you follow instructions to a t
I bought this to coat my laminate counter top. We followed those instructions to the letter. Sanded the while thing a bit. Washed with soap and water. Opened all the windows for ventilation. Recoated after 30 minutes. Didn't even lay a finger on it for at least 72 hours. First holy cow. All the windows open in my house was not enough ventilation. Did not have any living creatures home when you use it. Second. That stuff is so hard to roll out. Like it starts drying in minutes which means some places where my roller wasn't soaked dried very rough and textured. But the final straw and why I feel the need to review this product. I left this for 3 days with 0 i mean 0 contact. After 72 hours I put my bamboo utensil holder and bamboo paper towel holder in my counter. And already you can see a mark where the foot of my utensil holder is.it's light because everything in it is also bamboo. I mean don't get me wrong it did all 23 sq foot with a double coat in 1 can for just $25. But if you are using the area daily probably just buy a new cheap laminate countertop

Thank you for sharing your experience! Cooler temperatures or higher humidity can extend the dry and cure time of Rust-Oleum Specialty Countertop Coating. However, once the surface is fully cured and has dried hard, it can be washed down with a mild soap and water to help remove any lingering odor on the surface.

    Simple and fast
This is a very fast and easy way to paint your countertop. It looks great. It’s quick and affordable. I did have some roughy edges which I will smooth out but my kitchen looks great. I used the light ash. I wish I can see the other colors to see what it will look like. Overall I’m happy with my results.

Lots of mixed reviews on this product, but just read them ALL before making your decision. I did that and am so glad I did! This stuff works great. GREAT. They key to obtaining successful results is PATIENCE. Below is the method I used: 1. Open all doors and windows - even if its raining, and wear a K-N95 mask. The fumes are super strong and a regular cloth or disposable mask will not be sufficient. Apply your coats early in the day so that you can close your doors and windows by evening. If you have kids and pets, do it when they're not home or are outside. 2. Lightly sand counter tops to remove any sheen. I used 120 grit. 3. Do not apply a primer. 4. Tape off areas you don't want to get paint on really, really well, because once its on, its really hard to get off. 5. Apply one coat of Rustoleum using a 4" foam roller.Use consistent, even strokes, all in the same direction (back & forth, but not criss-cross.) I did 1/2 of my kitchen at a time, so I could at least have some usable space. Even though the instructions say that it's ok to apply a 2nd coat after 1 hour, don't do that. You'll regret it and will have a huge mess to correct. Let it dry for a minimum of 24 hours. Use a new roller for each coat, because its not possible to wash and reuse the old one. 6. Wait 3 days after the final coat and then apply 1 coat of Polycrylic sealer, using a quality nylon brush - not a roller. 7. Wait another day or 2 and apply a 2nd coat of Polycrylic sealer. I used Minwax, and although the instructions say to sand in-between coats, I didn't. 8. Enjoy your new counter tops. I just tested mine and tried to dig my fingernail in to make a dent but was unable to. The finish is rock solid. I wanted mine tinted blue, which was not an option listed on the can, but the kind person behind the paint counter was willing to grant my wish. So don't let the color choices limit your imagination!

        Cheap Facelift
I was overall happy with how this turned out. I watched a lot of DYI videos and I still got brush marks. However, my space was really small and I wanted to make sure I got around the sink really well. I think if I had more counter space to work with I could of had a better result. I would say if you can't afford replacing what you are painting, this is a good option. Work fast and in thin coats. My first coat looked great and my second I got the brush marks I think I put it on too thick and it set too fast. I do think they settled some as it cured. I gave it a week before I touched it.

          Paint covered well
Paint I used was gray color. Looks good! Tape well and be neat. Let dry correctly before using counter . It’s not perfect but it looks better than peach laminate counter that I had.

            Chip NIGHTMARE
We followed the directions, even added (3) polyurethane top coats to our countertops. Here we are 3 weeks later with a dozen scratches and chips with minimal use. I contacted Rust-oleum customer service whom stated that it seemed as though the paint hadn't cured. A suggest to get a different polyurethane can as that may be the issue. We also painted our cabinets with chalk paint. All (including countertops) had the same polyurethane top coat. No issues with said cabinets. I'm at a loss for how to remedy the countertop issue. We would not recommend this product!

Thank you for sharing your experience. In ideal conditions, Rust-Oleum Specialty Countertop Coating is ready for normal use after 3 days. At this time, we do not have a clear coating product that we recommend for use over this product.

Can not get a smooth application without lines.
Followed prep instructions, used a high density foam roller, & 4 coats in still have lines. I hoped for a smooth finish. Not sure how to “fix” it. May have to save up for a new counter top. I would not recommend this product/process for renewing your countertop.

That is not what we like to hear, Celia! Our Rust-Oleum Specialty Countertop Coating is designed to apply easily using a high-quality foam roller. Roller lines that are visible during the application should be smoothed by lightly rolling them over as the coating is applied. Amazing weekend transformation
Had pink Formica countertops from 1992 that were going to be replaced, but life kept getting in the way. Finally got tired of look at them and got this product. This was ridiculously easy to use. Used an electric hand sander, a roll of painters tape, and a package of foam rollers. Also had large garbage bags taped everywhere to protect floors and cabinets because I can be messy. Only used two coats. Super happy with the results. The only drawback- if you have anyone in the house with respiratory issues or latex allergies you’re going to have to get them out of the house for at least a week. This stuff has some killer fumes!
