Thanks for your interest in Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Satin Protective Enamel. For exterior doors, we typically recommend a satin or gloss finish. Gloss offers the greatest durability, moisture resistance, and ease of cleaning, while satin provides a durable finish that helps hide minor surface imperfections. Flat finishes are generally not recommended for exterior doors because they can be more difficult to clean and may show wear more quickly. — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
We're happy to clarify this for you, James. Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel can only be used on metal surfaces that don't get hotter than 200° F, so we would not recommend it for use on an exhaust manifold. Exhaust manifolds can get as hot as 1200° F, so we'd recommend using Rust-Oleum Automotive High Heat Spray Paint instead. Be sure to heat cure the high heat paint according to the directions on the label. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Automotive-12-oz-High-Heat-Flat-Black-Protective-Enamel-Spray-Paint-248903/202623076 — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
Happy to clarify this for you! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel can be applied to exterior metal surfaces of appliances, provided the surface temperature does not exceed 200°F and the area is not exposed to direct flame, heating elements, or food contact. For best results, apply the paint outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and allow it to fully cure before putting the appliance back into service. — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
Great question, Tica! We don't know what your cabinet is made of, but Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel can be used on metal and wood surfaces. If you're applying it to bare wood or metal surfaces, a primer such as Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Base Primer is recommended. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-qt-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-6-Pack-2004/202058886 — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
Great question, Jeff! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel Brush-On can be applied over a fully cured lacquer finish, provided the surface is clean and lightly sanded to create a profile for adhesion. We recommend testing the paint in a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility and acceptable results. For best coverage and adhesion, prime with Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer before painting. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-qt-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-6-Pack-2004/202058886 — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
Happy to help, Albert! If you're applying Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel to bare wood or metal surfaces, a primer such as Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer is recommended. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-1-qt-Flat-White-Clean-Metal-Primer-7780502/100126115 — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
Just make sure the surface is clean would be enough. Use denatured alcohol or acetone to clean the surface prior to application, don't forget gloves and eye protection, also, apply it while in a well ventilated area leaving any rags used out to air dry.
Happy to help, Dennis. While Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel can be applied to aluminum surfaces, it can not be applied to boat hulls. We hate to disappoint but we do not currently offer any paints that can be applied to an aluminum boat below the waterline. — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
We're happy to guide you to the right product for the exterior metal surfaces of a gas grill, Augie! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel can only withstand temperatures up to 200° F, so we wouldn't recommend it for your project. Instead, use Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Paint. This paint is suitable for the exterior only metal surfaces. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-1-Quart-High-Heat-Flat-Matte-Bar-B-Que-Black-Enamel-Interior-Exterior-Paint-2-Pack-7778502/202058875 — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15
