Thank you for reaching out, Michael! The Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Weathered Wood Roof Accessory Spray Paint can be applied on metal, though, it's not recommended for galvanized metal surfaces. We hope this helps! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

    Answer This Question

Happy to help, Eileen! Yes, Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Roof Accessory Spray Paint can be applied to both wood and metal doors. Make sure to apply as directed and in a well-ventilated space. If the doors aren't already painted, we do recommend priming first to help with coverage. Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Universal Bonding Primer Spray would be a great choice! https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-12-oz-Universal-Bonding-Primer-Spray-6-Pack-285011/205926957 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Our roof flashing (originally black) starts fading with white spots. Can this be used to repaint the roof flashing ? If so, so I spray it directly on the old paint or do I need other paint like primer or enamel sealer after?

      Answer This Question

Happy to help! While a primer is not required when applying Rust-Oleum Roof Accessory Spray Paint over a previously painted surface, you will need to ensure that anything loose is removed from the surface. If the existing finish is glossy, we do recommend lightly sanding to promote full adhesion. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

        Answer This Question

Happy to help, Tim! Rust-Oleum Roof Accessory Spray Paint can be applied, provided the gutters are not galvanized. The spray paint will not properly adhere to galvanized surfaces. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

          Answer This Question

Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Roof Accessory Spray Paint can be applied to previously painted metal gutters. We recommend it for the exterior of the gutters only, as the inside areas are likely to have more prolonged exposure to water, which can cause blistering and peeling. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Fine print - Not for use on galvanized metal! I bought to repaint various roof jacks and flashing, all are galvanized (most common) with ABS pipe vents. Can says for use on flashing, stacks, exhaust vents, vent pipes and more. Any suggestions?

            Answer This Question

Happy to help, Dustyn! While Rust-Oleum Roof Accessory Spray Paint will dry on galvanized metal, the zinc on the surface will prevent the paint from properly adhering and may peel early on. Typically, oil or solvent-based paints will not fully adhere to zinc, and therefore galvanized metal. Loose paint can be removed and then prime with a water-based primer, or even Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Universal Bonding Primer Spray, before being topcoated with this paint or another oil-based paint or spray. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-12-oz-Universal-Bonding-Primer-Spray-6-Pack-285011/205926957 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

                Answer This Question

Happy to help, Glenn! Since any loose paint or rust on the surface needs to be removed with either a wire brush or sandpaper, and any glossy surfaces need to be lightly sanded to promote full adhesion of Rust-Oleum Roof Accessory Spray Paint, all label and safety instructions must be followed. I’m usually happy with Rust-Oleum products, but the roof accessory paint leaves much to be desired. The paint is labeled “Weathered Wood”, but is a poor color match for my GAF Weathered Wood shingles. The spray pattern is very narrow which results in a streaked finish, rather than an even coat when sprayed. It earned two stars for never clogging which was appreciated while working in the sun on a hot roof.

New formula of "Weathered Wood" but same name?
I went to my nearest Home Depot to purchase another can of "Weathered Wood" when I ran out at the end of a project, only to realize at home that it wasn't the same color! I searched for the original formula at the area Home Depots and found it at the fourth store I visited. They had one can left. I used the NEW version to paint a rattan chair. As you can see in the pic, not only is the new "Weathered Wood" not the same COLOR as the original formula, it is GLOSSY.

Thank you for reaching out. The best indication of the final color of Rust-Oleum Roof Accessory Spray Paint will be the cap on the can. The more gray labeling of this product is the newer labeling and product.

Very disappointed. I bought 13 cans over three days from three different Home Depot’s, because the product was limited in each store. Although all the cans were labeled the same color - weathered wood - they were not the same color, nor was the coverage per can. The cans with the RED label - Roof Accessory Paint - was gray in color, not brown like the other cans. The two paint products were completely different, which resulted in a disastrous project outcome.

Pretty close to Weber grill gray.
After some bodywork to repair the cracked trim on my weber, I picked this (weathered wood) up. It was the closest match to the gray weber uses. Turned out better than expected.

Nice Match to my Weatherwood Shingled Roof
I used this exterior spray paint to paint the gutter splash guards on my roof. They were white and stood out too much for my liking when set against the dark brown shingles on the roof. The pictures show both a before and after. Though not a perfect match, it was very close and helps it to blend in with the roof. Spray can was easy to use and paint was distributed in a fine spray that was easily controlled. Even so I took care to tape off the gutter below so as to have a nice clean line.
