So I have to buy a batt and charger. All I have is Dewalt elect tools

Asked by: jumpin
Yes, you do. However, I have found after 30 years experience that Ryobi has really stepped up their game. I find their family of products to be as good as Dewalt.

how come the caulking tube explodes in the middle every time i use my ryobi caulking gun

i dont see any reason for it but i would like to know why so i can do bigger jobs .but i blow a hole in the tube every time
Asked by: richard
You'll notice in the reviews many people had this problem with the guns sold mid-2016 to early-2017. (Yes, I am one of them. And, yes, I punctured the seal on the tubes before using each of them.) There was obviously a defective batch of them. Unfortunately, if you went beyond the Home Depot return window, you were stuck with the Ryobi "2-year warranty." The warranty is completely useless. I now have a $40 doorstop unless I drive 75 miles (each way) to an authorized service center to see if MAYBE the item is covered.

I had a significant amount of caulking and realized that the heavy pro caulk I was using would be very tiring. I did 4 tubes with a standard caulk gun and had at least 20 more tubes to do. My forearm was tired. So I bought the Ryobi caulk gun. The use of the Ryobi caulk gun is very easy. The feed rate is adjustable from very slow to a high rate. A nice feature is that when the feed trigger is released there is no residual pressure on the caulk tube - i.e. the caulk flow stops. The battery provides adequate energy to do many caulk tubes without recharging. When I first saw the product a few years ago I did not think I would need it until recently when I had a lot of caulking to do. Really saves your forearm. Glad I used it for the project.

I bought it to save my hands on a large DIY job. Turns out that an old fashioned caulking gun was easier on my hands and gave better results. With this gun, I used way more caulk, had an uneven bead and way too much caulk dumped out even on the slowest setting. When I let go of the trigger, the tubes became loose and rotated so I had to reposition them often. I was using an angle cut on the tip of the tubes, so when they loosened/rotated it was hard to know where the angle was to get a clean bead and to know when the caulk was beginning to flow. And the kicker...it blew out the bottom of one tube of caulk because the tube moved so much. Other things: no way to attach a lanyard and the lock engages way too easily. It's easy to turn off but a distraction to have it unexpectedly engage. Caulking the joints between beams and a popcorn ceiling with this thing led to a crappy looking job and a bunch of rework. With the old fashioned caulking gun, the results look way better. Long story short...good idea, horrible execution. Pity because my other Ryobi tools work great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What Did I Do Before I Got This!!?? What Did I Do Before I Got This? I spent hours pumping caulk by hand - until I got cramps - trying to control the flow for a uniform bead. More hours wiping up the "ooze" that was inevitable after each pass. The Ryobi delivers a uniform bead - you just have to adjust the speed control and the speed of your arms to lay a bead that often required no smoothing or raking. When they did, I used the plastic smoother set ("As Sold on TV") that Home Depot has in stock. And the best part?! When you release the trigger, the flow stops immediately! I think the motor backs up a bit to suck that last bit of caulk back into the tube. Because of that, there's a short lag when you pull the trigger for the next pass before the caulk starts. I laid down 9 tubes of caulk on my newly sided garage in about an hour. Caution! The caulk comes out fast, even at the slowest speed setting! Cut the tube with a smaller opening then you would think (like 1/16" for a 1/8" bead, as shown in photo) until you get used to the machine. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from surprised at the quality and performance Me and my dad just built a 10' x 16' storage shed in the backyard and there was a ton of caulking to be done... We used silicon as well as heavy duty liquid nails with this caulk gun, man am I glad we made the purchase... To be honest we held on to the receipt & box because we weren't sure it would do the job... When we opened the box we were surprised at how well it was built... After going threw about 40 tubes of caulk with a green power light still showing on the battery and the caulking looking like a pro did it... We are very happy indeed... We even re-caulked the tub/shower and toilet in one bathroom... Bottom line: This is a quality tool, built very well with good weight distribution so fatigue wasn't an issue... just a heads up: when you use it for the first time, turn the dial to the slowest setting, then adjust speed from there, also it does take a few seconds for the caulk to flow but it wasn't a big deal...

I bought this so I wouldn't have to set up the compressor and drag a hose for smaller jobs. This gun performed great. I may never go back to the pneumatic gun. I used it with 3 tubes of Alex to caulk all the moulding after we replaced our downstairs flooring as well as a tube of Liquid Nails to secure the caps on our block patio wall. No problems and I still have more than 1/2 charge left on the first 3.0Ah battery. I'm very impressed with it so far. Only complaints are, like others have mentioned, it is a little heavy and it could use a little more flow control on the low end. It would be nice to have it go just a little slower for caulking very small gaps like in moulding.

I've always dreaded having to caulk, and often had to cut the hole bigger than I needed just to be able to get the product out. Other than being a bit heavier than I'd like, this is the greatest invention since sliced bread. It easily handled a tube of a thick outdoor caulk (Sikaflex?). I had no problem with overflow. There is a slight delay after pulling the trigger before the product comes out, but easy to adapt to. Main issue was I would hit the trigger lock with my finger in between squeezes of the trigger and lock myself out, but that was easy to adapt to also. Definitely no need to avoid caulking in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This tool is a valuable addition to any job (or... This tool is a valuable addition to any job (or tool collection) that requires putting down a lot of material that is otherwise hard to work with a manual gun. It saves a lot of pressure and stress on hands., particularly with stiff adhesives. Control of dispensing speed is very good with the speed adjustment, and the gun has consistently remained clean without popping any caulk tube seams. Moreover, the tool price point is a fraction of other competitors such that the gun, fast charger and Ryobi compatible batteries all together will cost less than the bare tool of the pricier competitors. That also gives you the option of acquiring other 18v lithium Ryobi power tools, of which there are dozens. At this point, I cannot speak for durability, but the tool appears to be solid and well made and has warranty coverage at least as good as the competition. Other than perhaps the color, what's not to like?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SUPER EASY! I bought this last fall for sealing around my slide outs in my RV. I like to use the peel away window sealant once I shut them as added protection as I have learned the hard way what water damage can do. My hands aren't strong, the caulk is thick, it made for a tedious job that I dreaded. With the caulk gun I can just push a button and get it done. Do be careful tho, thick tube caulking does have to on lowest setting if it is a cardboard tube or the power will blow the sides out!
