In the year 2017, it is insulting that ryobi chose to use lead acid batteries instead of long lasting, safe, lithium phosphates(lifepo4).( 3 year life vs 10+ years.) I would have paid $800 more for lithium. Heck i even used lithium on my last ebike, why cant $ryobi$?

Robaroni, I agree with you in general that AGM is in-fact a reasonable choice of battery in this application. However given you are a "Pro" I do want to point out a glaring error in what you have communicating to people. It's just flat out mis-information. The "Ah" rating you are talking about for SLA (AGM) batteries is specified at an extremely low discharge rate. Typically at 10 or 20 hours. However when you actually mow your lawn and drain them within an hour or so capacity drops dramatically. The "75Ah" advertised here can easily be 50Ah or lower. On the contrary Lithium-Ion batteries will typically be able to hit their advertised capacity at 5C-10C. I.e. You could discharge them in 15 minutes and they would still hit their advertised capacity. So you are incorrect. The battery type/chemistry DOES matter, and you CAN NOT simply look at the rated Ah and conclude that the performance of the two batteries is the same. In-fact in this very application, its a guarantee you won't see anywhere near 75Ah out of those SLA batteries. It wouldn't surprise me much at all if Li-ion battery at roughly half that advertised capacity had the same *actual* capacity in this application. The real reason this thing is engineered with SLA is cost and cost alone. If they would have provided a huge Li-ion battery it would have raised the price many hundreds of dollars, and customers simply wouldn't consider the mower.

With nothing to synchronize the blades (separate motors) how do they overlap without hitting? Do they not overlap? If so, how does it not leave a seem of uncut grass down the middle of each pass?
Asked by: John
Baltimore, show us pictures of cut grass demonstrating your claim of gap between and net effective 19” cut? Your first picture clearly shows the blade on right (left when viewed from the seat) is several inches ahead of the other blade. Take a straight line between the rollers and drop a perpendicular line between the blades and you will demonstrate the cutting overlap. What your pictures show is exactly how every multiblade mower deck is made. Sometimes with some mowers one can turn at exactly the right/wrong radius leaving the gap you claim. If that matters then with this mower turn left, not right.

I've been using this mower for the entire summer and love it. However I have one growing concern as I prepare to put it away until the Spring: the battery power seems to be declining. When I first bought it and began to use it the batteries would indeed last the 2.5 hours for which they're advertised. Over the following months leading to now (November), the run time has slowly decreased. As I write this, I only receive about 1.5 hours of run time. I clean the mower deck before each use. Hopefully there is a simple solution to this. Please advise.

To prolong new battery life it's recommended you only drain no more than 30% for 1st (10) uses. Check out mycountryacre.com for some great advice on prolonging battery life.

I like the electric mower because I do not have to deal with oil, gas, spark plugs and all the other issues with a gas engine, I know its going to start and work. It's clean and quiet and does an outstanding job. The mowing deck is easily removed, and I also purchased the bagging unit, and I cleaned my yard of leaves in no time. This is the first riding mower I ever purchased, and I am very pleased with my choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds my expectations, i have sand rough terrain This mower exceeds all my expectations! I have a new build house on one acre with sandy soil and really rough terrain. It did it all even two foot tall clumped grass/weeds. First day I did the easy part to get used to the mower. At first I hitched up my cart and went around collecting large weeds/objects from the property and after that started cutting at max height. I was impressed as for two hours it hauled, cut and handled well and only used half the battery. Next day was the hard part of the property, really thick and high grass/weeds. Had it set for max. height and went slow, the blades slowed on the thick stuff but just had to go slow. I only got stuck once in a depression half the height off the tire! The slick grass just let the tires spin, however, I was able to just back up and take a different approach. Plus the slope is about 15 degrees in that area and the second day it used just 1/4 of the battery. This mower is a beast and I now understand all the great reviews! Over this summer, I have spent many weekends trying to get my 480e to cut evenly. Following its use, my lawn looks like a series of steps. The poor appearance can be fixed by double cutting (two overlapping passes) by which time the angled cut is not obvious. But, by the time that I do that, I might as well have used my walk behind mower. At least pushing that mower gave me some exercise. I have interacted with the Ryobi representative to no avail. He is unable to recognize the problem, despite many images and videos. The problem is that the cutting deck never falls evenly on the two sides. It always rides high on the right rear, as though it was pivoting at some location in the midst of the cutting deck that could not go lower (i.e. fully down on the left and floating on the right). I have made full length adjustments and had the deck off a few times. The cutting deck still floats. I am at a loss to identify the cause and have given up on the Ryobi rep. I really want to love this mower. It's just driven me crazy. Apart from that, it works well. I have the bagger, and that is fantastic for clearing fall leaves. Except, that the bags fill very quickly. I have another device that chops up the leaves as it vacuums, so many more leaves per cubic foot, but you have to lug that around, hung over your shoulder, and aim it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Trouble free product I had the rider for over a year. I use it to cut my loan grass and as a tractor to move stuff like material and dirt around. I am happy with the overall performance as it gave me no troubles at all. It is perfect for mowing even flat lawn, but when it comes to understand even parts the cutting becomes pain in the neck and I could not get it right. First mower ordered had a damaged wheel assembly. The PTO on the 2nd was inoperable. Ryobi shipped a replacement, but I was able to connect the broken pieces with a screw. Bagger works well for grass and leaves.
