Questions & Answers

What is the difference between this trimmer and the other cheaper 40v Ryobi Trimmer (Model # RY40210A)?

Asked by: Boomer
The cheaper one is 12" swatch diameter which is some how the traditional cordless model standardss, where as this one, like gas powered, has 15" diameter, if that make you happy. I am happy with the 12" though for half this price.

Cutting head rotation

Which way does the cutting head rotate? I want a trimmer that rotates the way most curved shaft trimmers rotate and I believe that is clock wise.
Asked by: PMP350
According to the instructions after removing the battery, you step down on the foot pedal and rotate the trimmer head counterclockwise. In my instance doing things properly is of no use at all, the head jammed permanently on the day I first bought it. Good luck with yours. You will need it.

Bought one of these last night. Ready to get started. Next question is after battery is charged where is best place to store battery?

On charger? Off of the charger? On the attachment? Should battery be exposed to hot and cold temps in storage shed?
Asked by: DoDa
Thank you for asking, DoDa. To obtain the longest possible battery life, we suggest removing the battery pack from the charger once it is fully charged and ready for use. For battery pack storage longer than 30 days, store the battery pack where the temperature is below 80°f and away from moisture, store battery packs in a 30%-50% charged condition, and every six months of storage, we recommend charging the battery pack as normal. Great question! I hope this helps. –Keri

Is this 40 volt battery interchangeable with 40 volt self-propelled lawn mower?

Asked by: Mw
Sure is! Honestly, I really love this system. I bought the trimmer, chainsaw and blower as well as the mower. No more pulling a cord on a tempermental gas mower. The noise difference is amazing as well. Glad I made the switch

As long as you keep your expectations in check, you'll be good to go. It's not gas. So, it's not quite as powerful. BUT it still packs a punch! I've used it every weekend since I bought it 4 weeks ago. No problems with edging. I bought the 40v mower at the same time. I was able to mow, edge, mow again all one one charge - with at least 1/4 battery left over. (I admit, like most modern neighborhoods, I have a small yard). But since it was edging so good, I put it through its paces on the overgrown side yard. It whipped through all this in less than 30mins. Still had battery power left, so I started a second pass. I took a picture when i got a few feet in.

My issue is with the battery. I needed to replace it once, and going on a second time in less than a year. The first replacement process was average, needed to provide tool, battery, and charger model numbers and serial numbers -- all after they were registered on the Ryobi tool site. I am on the second time and gave all the same information for the replaced battery, but they required that I provide the email that was sent to me more than 6 months ago. I do have my receipts from the initial purchase, but that's not good enough. Buyer beware of the warranty. Ryobi please support your customer base!

I bought several of the 40 Volt series lawn equipment about two weeks ago, and this along with the edger attachment work great together! Very powerful, I was actually surprised by that. The weedwacker is fast and shreds quickly (buy the double, way better than the single side), and the edger cuts through the ground, dirt, and thick grass. It also has a safety on it, kind of annoying but it is important to have, that if too much force is put on the motor, it will kick off and reset as to not damage the tool. I love this set up, the weight is low, and it is very quiet. I used the blower to finish up, and my yard is looking better and better! I hope they make even more 40v tools!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely dissatisfied I bought this product less than a month ago, used it 3 times, and the battery is already in need of replacement. Took it to the store and was turned away because it's a battery issue so I was to call Ryobi for replacement. The battery is on backorder so it will be at least 2-3 weeks before i get it. He told me that was good timing because it used to be December before they could get it (it's now August). The lady behind me at Home Depot was bringing hers in for the EXACT same issue. Frustrating that I can't return the defective product within the return period on my receipt. $200 spent on this product and attachments, only to not be able to use it during peak mowing time.

I bought the 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Attachment Capable String Trimmer several weeks ago and was so impressed that I bought the edger attachment which I just now unboxed and used. I am 5+ pleased with both. Both were easily unboxed, attached and the job they both did was exemplar. I will not try the blower.... Go get you one I definitely recommend both. Stay tuned and I will report on the blower when I get it - which will be soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good item, but does have some issues I've had this product for a year now and overall I am sissified with it. I like that I was able to still use all the attachments from my previous Ryobi gas power head. The battery life gave me enough time to trim, edge, and blow the driveway clean. The issue I just ran into was the charger not charging the batter. Called customer service and they are replacing the battery and charger without any hassles. The new battery has arrived, but I'm still waiting on the charger. After reading several review the chargers looks have issues, and they need to sort this out. Hopefully the new charger will last longer than a year (or actual half year) of weekly use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I requested a replacement battery and was told they were sending a new charger along with the new battery. Never received the new charger! Meanwhile, after waiting 10 days to receive the new battery/charger combo now waiting on the charger, nothing else shows up and my weeds are growing! I used the old charger and it worked just fine. I trimmed most of my yard and it dies, I place it on the charger and it is flashing defective again...I call the warranty department 1-877-298-6922 and spoke with Heather, she barely let me finish my statement and cut me off and said since I used the old charger she was not going to send a new battery. I lost my mind...how could they say that when they never sent the new one! She got very snarky with me and taunted me saying "let it out, let it all out". I demanded to speak to someone else (Chris - female supervisor) and ended up getting hung up on. I called back and got Samantha all from the same call center, apparently, and was told someone would have to call me back after they listen to the first warranty call I made back in the beginning of June. REALLY!?? I'm starting to think this is how they handle not replacing the batteries...saying they will send a charger and then not and then voiding the warranty when you are desperate and need to get the yard work done. Mind you, my neighbor actually secretly trimmed my yard along his fence it was getting so bad. I have had it with warranty customer service agents. They all suck. The bad thing is they don't care. To them you are just another irate customer that they can hang up on. DON'T BUY RYOBI TOOLS.
