Will this be great for cutting a 12 in by 24 in tiles

Will this be great for cutting a 12 in by 24 in tiles ?
Asked by: Jumplevels
I did our kitchen, hallway, & powder room in 12x24. This little saw did a nice job. I did start with a different blade after reading reviews before buying it. But it cut very well. I did have to free hand some cuts, but it was no worse than a 4x8 sheet of plywood on a table saw.

Does this come with a blade included or does it need to be purchased separately?

Asked by: JM
Comes with a cheap junk blade. Buy a diamond blade for it.

just bought the saw and I am having trouble the tile (white porcelain back splash chips at the very end of the cut. Why?
Asked by: scott
I have an earlier version of this saw, and have/had the same problems with plank porcelain tile (just re-did my bathroom). I don't think it's the saw, however, I did quite a bit of Googling when this was happening to me, and it seems to just be the very nature of porcelain tile. I do have the Dewalt diamond blade, which was a significant improvement over OEM blade. I basically found with porcelain that you have to cut very slow, and not cram the tile too tight against the fence. I cut even slower as I approach end of cut, periodically pulling tile back slightly then moving forward again. Still, sometimes they chip. I have found, not kidding, that if you can salvage the chip you can easily glue it back to the porcelain with Loctite super glue and no one will ever know!

Does this saw come with the stand it is sitting on in the pictures?

Asked by: grgsr
Oh, stand in picture is part of the saw. There is another stand that is available that is about 4 to 5 feet high.

We went back and purchased a higher grade blade and got the project completed. So overall, for the price, it was pretty good. It was just the aggravation of the second blade.

I like the way this one has legs that support it securely and a groove around the edge to catch water and return it to the basin below (others I looked at did not have either of these features). Initially I guess I didn't tighten the saw shield bracket tight enough to withstand vibrations because after cutting one sheet of tiles, the edge of that bracket blocked the next sheet. The fix was simple - I loosened it, realigned it, tightened those screws very tight, and the bracket stayed in place from then on. The saw is very lightweight and easy to carry but appears to be very durable and well made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great saw for home use Great option to buying or renting a professional grade tile saw. I've read the negative reviews and they all seem to be written by people who were expecting a professional grade tile saw for $129. Or maybe they don't know how to adjust the fence before and sometimes during cuts. Or put the tile through slowly and let the saw do the work. I've done a lot of tiling in my home with a different ~$120 saw and this one kept me relatively dry, cut the tile (40 sq ft of 12" mosaic backsplash) and functioned beautifully...when I took the time to set the fence properly (10 seconds) and sometimes adjust it midcut when I felt the tile binding. Great saw for the price.

We ended up using the QEP tile saw more often than this one. Good for quick cuts that don't have to be too accurate. Since we were cutting ceramic tiles, the cuts were not too smooth.
