Q:Do these decoys come two per package.?

Answer This Question

A:  Nope, Home Depot only sells them as single birds. They are $6.87 each thru HD, but S&K can sell them cheaper, direct to the publuc, but the shipping charges might not make it worth it. https://store.skmfg.com/Purple-Martin-Decoy/productinfo/PM+D/

Q:Has anyone used a decoy (or two) and had luck attracting martins? How is it that a decoy "protects" as stated in the description? Thank you!

A:  I have a decoy perched on top of my Martin House. It has been there two years, or longer, but still no Martin's have moved in. I thought it was meant to attract birds, but am beginning to think it's more like a scarecrow, and making them stay away.

A:  It is one of many things that can be used to help attract PMs. Location of the houses are the most important. It doesn't help protect, unless they are thinking that a hawk or owl will grab it instead of a live one. I put my decoys up last year, PMs would fly in for an inspection and try and talk to the decoys.

A:  I tried for several years to get Martins and never new there were decoys. I don't know if it was the decoys or not but I put three decoys on the perches and I finally got a pair of martins.

A:  Yes, but after two years.....no martins!

          by|May 20, 2019

A:  Short answer: decoys don't attract martins, but do protect against raptor strikes. I have used decoys for many years, but always with a "dawnsong" CD. Purple martins are very vocal, so silent decoys do not really attract martins, in my experience. However, decoys are GREAT for helping with hawks and owls, who will strike the decoys first and allow the rest of the martins to escape.

A:  No did not attract Martina or keep birds away

              by|May 21, 2019

A:  Martins depend on numbers to protect the nesting boxes. The decoys give the appearance of occupied boxes therefore deterring other species of occupying the nesting boxes.

                  Answer This Question

A:  There is a plastic clip with a screw approximately where the martins legs would be. Simply slid them onto the perch or unscrew the screw and strap them on by the nesting boxes.

Easy to attach to bird house, etc.
Arrived promptly. Decoys came with a loop and screw to attach to my bird house. Birds were attracted immediately to the house. So fun to watch the birds flock to this bird house now that the decoys have been attached. Sometimes the birds even sit on the roof next to the decoys.

                    Defective but easy repair
As soon as I put it on the spot where I wanted it the screw hole stripped out and I had to replace the screw with one twice the original size to be able to use the decoy .the manufacturer might want to fix this defect.

These decoys are well made and look good. They were delivered fast and on time. I will be putting these on stakes to be decoys against hawks.
