There is no way to determine a shelf life to opened bags. We would recommend using them ASAP. Concrete only has a 1 year shelf when sealed. After that the material will not work.

Answer

As a fencing contractor I usually only use an 8" hole for 4x4 posts, and at 24" deep, I use 2 bags average. For a 12" hole with a 4x6 post I had to use 5 bags, so you'll likely need 6-7 bags per hole for a 4x4 post in a 12" hole.

It does what its supposed to do. At least 2 bags per fence post, sometimes more depending on the size of the hole and the post. I have an 8" auger so I average 2 bags. Its cheaper than the other stuff and easier to move than the 80lb bags. I've easily used over 300 bags of this stuff throughout the years in my business. Adding the quick set stuff, makes the posts sturdy in about 15 min. Usually without it, I'll wait and hour or so for it to setup, then add the support rails for the rest of the fence.
