Questions & Answers

how many bags for a 24x40 foot garage floor

how many bags for a 24x40 foot garage floor
Asked by: Lynn
If it were me (from my experience working in union construction in estimating and project management roles) I would excavate and place 6" of crushed stone then pour my slab with 6" of concrete reinforced with welded wire fabric. I am unsure of the residential code in your area so I would advise you to check the local requirements for concrete and make sure to check for expansion joints as well. If you used a 6" slab the 24'x40' area would require 480 cubic feet of concrete. Each bag yields 0.6 cubic feet which means you need 800 bags to do the slab (not accounting waste). So your cost would be quite high (this is also the equivalent amount of 30 cubic yards which requires a few concrete trucks....). By the time you mixed all the bags (pending heart attack with this many bags) the concrete would have set. Contact your local concrete supplier and stone supplier. If you are going to go through the trouble do it right the first time. It will save you the trouble of taking it out and redoing it. All the best.

How many bags for 128 sq ft at 4”

Asked by: Tony
The chart shows 100 sq ft = 50 bags 80 lb + 20 sq ft = 10 bags 80 lb + 4 sq ft = 3 bags for a total of 63 bags of 80 lb concrete for 124 sq ft. I do not know why the sakrete person answered 72 bags. If you are doing this yourself I would buy at least 5 bags extra just so you can get it done without going back to the store for more.
