Q:All of my incomming cold water lines must be insulated to protect from freezing. Would it be permissible to re-install foam pipe insulation and tape after installation of the de-scaler? Placing it over the top of leads?

Q:In the advertising it’s shows uses which include people sitting a hot tub. I’m I correct to assume that the water reverts back after 96 hours this unit would not be a good solution to reduce scale ring on hot tubs or pools.

A:  Ronald this is correct in a closed loop….however some people put a SCALESWEEPER on water line after recirculating water pump. Make sure the unit is GFI protected

      Conditioner, not softener.
Had water test @69 GPG; so right at the limit; WOW this thing works! (Am doing laundry in small loads and never got suds - after installation we do have!) Also had *heavy* spotting on glasses, now we have some light spots. So the salt based tank is in bypass and this conditioner does do the job; best of all is I am not dumping salt into my septic - which is important if you don't want hard pan (Salt bonding to soil rendering leach field inoperative. Nice light show!

        Works as promised good product
My water was 8 gpg and high iron at 4ppm. I installed a whole house iron filter, but didn’t want to install a softener both for environmental concerns and for the cost of maintenance. My main concern was simply to protect my fixtures and appliances from scale buildup. We found scalesweeper online decided to try it. Two years later our appliances and fixtures are practically scale free and any small scale that does form, and its barely noticeable, its super easy to clean.

          Skeptic Proven Wrong
I was very skeptical about this product, but for the price and relatively easy installation, I gave it a shot. Existing scale started to soften and breakdown over time. It doesn’t disappear on its own, but some light scrubbing helps the scale chip away. Sediment and scale in the pipes loosened up and clogged up the kitchen faucet aerator (easy fix). So, this thing amazingly works as advertised! One of the warnings is if you have high iron content in your water, it won’t work for you. Luckily, that isn’t a problem here. Before you buy, download the manual, and look up your municipality’s water report to check. Included images are of the kitchen faucet with about 5 years of scale built up - Day 1, 1 Week, 5 Weeks.

I bought Scalesweeper because it's rated to 25 ggp and I wanted something to help deal with hard (12-17 ggp avg) Phoenix water. I cleaned the scale build up off my fixtures and after a couple weeks with the Scalesweeper hooked up I haven't seen any major new scale build up. It's important to note that this device will not give you the same results as a salt-based softener. Rather Scalesweeper conditions your water so that mineral build up doesn't adhere to faucets and fixtures as easily. A device that 'shocks' the hardness out of water seems like voodoo, but if you read up on the science behind this, it actually does make sense. Installation is straightforward. Take your time creating the coils, and make sure you wrap the wires just as the manual tells you to. This is critical to getting the correct magnetic field established. The unit itself attaches with zip ties, and mine came with two extra ties just in case.

It really works! Yay! Science. Since installing the scale sweeper, the residue on my clear bathroom shower walls is gone. No more vinegar, rinsing, and cleaning with window cleaner. It works great. We did have a problem with the first unit, it wouldn’t power on, so we took it back to Home Depot and ordered another one. This one works great. I’d definitely recommend it .

            NOT a water softener
I've had this Scalesweeper device in service for about 5 weeks now. I previously had a brine rinse resin bed water softener in service and hoped I could replace that with this device. NO way that will be happening. We have really HARD water here and it became much more evident after the water softener was out of service for a couple of weeks. White residue is on everything where water splashes or sits for any time at all. Clean dishes don't look clean. SS sink edges look terrible.
