1650 Watt Countertop/Built-In Induction Cooktop in Black with 1 Element

$ 72 95

Overview

Micro-Induction Cooktop provides the best in cooktop performance, safety and efficiency. Induction heats as electricity flows through a coil to produce a magnetic field under the ceramic plate. When a ferromagnetic cookware is placed on the ceramic surface, currents are induced in the cookware and instant heat is generated due to the resistance of the pan. Heat is generated to the pan only and no heat is lost. As there are no open flames, inductions are safer to use than conventional burners. Once cookware is removed, all molecular activity ceases and heating is stopped immediately.

Customer Reviews

SPT 1650 Watt Countertop/Built-In Induction Cooktop in Black with 1 Element is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect Love this, especially for the price. Looks very sleek, is sturdy and stable, and will work well either on countertop or dropin. I'd ordered this as a drop-in unit, not realizing it could do both, and was very pleasantly surprised! My biggest complaint is the apparent lack of precision in the heat settings. They go in relatively large increments, so it has been tricky getting the heat exactly right. There's a thermostat - controlled "keep warm" setting, which is nice, but it suffers from the same issues. It has settings of 180 degrees, 190, 210, and 230...but what if I want 200 or 220? Or 193? I haven't phoned customer service yet, so there might be a way to adjust the built-in settings (also, degrees Celsius would be really nice). I'll update this review if that's true.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased this induction cooktop for a countertop built-in application. The cooktop was a lot l... I purchased this induction cooktop for a countertop built-in application. The cooktop was a lot larger than I had envisioned, but it's a nice and adequate size. Please note that when "built-in", the whole cooktop will be about 1/4" above the surrounding countertop. So I finally used it...bought a Cooks Essential Stainless Steel set from eBay, and it works perfectly. The wattage settings are accurate, and the cooktop is very easy to use. I went to cook up a cup of oatmeal (= 3 cups total mixture), and it was boiling in under three minutes--now that's fast! In the end, it was just a tad slower than a microwave (9 minutes versus 7 minutes), but it was several times more efficient. I've read that induction cooktops give you instant control of the heat, and that is absolutely true. Actually, when I put the cooktop on a low-wattage setting (100, 300, 500 are all "pulsed" 700W), I could actually see the food respond when the cooktop switched on and off! That's fast, and way safer than gas. It's easily as powerful as a burner on a 220v range--actually, this 120v cooktop seems a lot more powerful, as you get results so much faster. One comment: when in operation, the unit does have a crackly hiss from the induction coil, sort of reminiscent of a CRT (tube-style monitor) startup. And there is a cooling fan (which vents underneath the counter if it's built-in.) Being technical: the controls are capacitive touch sensors, and not flexible buttons that can be damaged. The glass top is one seamless piece, making cleaning an absolute breeze. Note that the glass top has a "dimple pattern" on the underside, which slightly distorts the LED display right above the "Mr. Induction" logo. All of the indicators are red. No-load power consumption is approximately 1.7W. Coming from someone who grew up using the electric coil burners, I'm impressed. Fully recommended. Hopefully it'll give many years of reliable service.
