So many things need more than a floor jack to raise them up so that you can work on them. What I would have given to have this the last time the drive belt needed to be changed on my riding lawn mower; the ramps were in the way part of the time. I have a tree that is in a position on the ground that puts stress on where the tree needs to be cut. Some places are too high off the ground for a floor jack. It has been sitting for a year while I found something tall enough and strong enough to take the pressure off a chain saw. These are also good for removing T-posts.

This Stark 48” 3-1/2 Ton Farm Jack looks, and works good so far. Way back in 1974, I bought a different major brand of this type of jack. It was always in my Power Wagon, and saved my bacon on several occasions. It was, of course, used to jack that old truck up for tire changes, etc., front or rear. I twice had to jack up the truck using the entire 48 inches of that jack, to get the wheel/s out of holes where the road gave out, and the truck was resting on its front axle. It was used to pull miles of fencing t-posts out of the hard ground of Southern Arizona Mountains for wildlife habitat improvement. On more than one occasion, it was used to get that old truck out of sand, bad mud and other predicaments. It was even used to pull and, somewhat straighten, the tie rod that got bent when the truck hit a stump hidden in high grass. And, it was used as a makeshift winch/come-along more than once. I made a 12 in. x 12 in. base for it using two thicknesses of ¾ in. plywood. That platform made the jack much more stable, and helped prevent it from sinking in sand and (some) mud. I parked that old truck, so after my daughter got married, I gave that jack to my son-in-law, and it went to Texas with them when they moved down there. I’ve often wished I had it back. I say all this to show that a good farm jack is extremely useful. I just used this new one to spread the steel frame on one side of our mid-century metal lawn chairs after a very heavy person sat in it and bent it. It worked great and did just what I needed it to do. For the most part, bumpers on the newer trucks cannot be used as jacking points. However, there are many accessories (from other manufacturers) made for using the farm jack on the wheels, (some) of those bumpers, etc. There is also a detachable base platform, as well as other parts made for them. The Top Clamp-Clevis of this jack can be turned for use as a winch attachment point, or it can be removed entirely if desired. This one is steel, not cast iron like my old one. I’m not likely to use it as hard as I did my old one, but it remains to be seen if it will hold up, or perform, as well. EVERY off-road vehicle, farm, ranch, or homestead, or builder should have a good farm jack. I acquired this jack for review purposes, but if were to go shopping for one today, I’d likely get the cast iron one MADE IN USA.

I love this jack. Got it to pull stumps out of the ground and it has not disappointed. It took a little getting used to but once I did it was smooth sailing from there.

This tool by far exceeded my expectations. I used it to lift a small house to replace the sole plate.
