grab the goo-gone and a squeegee
We used this tub in two bathroom remodels so I must like it (plus Home Depot doesn’t have the same time standards as the rest of the construction world so this was one of the few actually in stock.) It’s easy to clean and looks sleek. But why cement an advertisement for overpriced (but necessary) shelves on the tub surround? It’s difficult to remove and that spot always seems to attract dirt and buildup faster. C’mon, Sterling, splurge a little and invest in the adhesive-free kind 🤦🏼‍♀️

Side shower wall has a 4-in crack hidden by one of the factory stickers did not realize it till the total installation was finished and removed stickers from shower wall unit. Leaves me with the worst installation I've ever had in my 30-year

            Questioning why I bought it
I was so excited when I saw this in the store but now that it’s installed in my home I’m not so happy. The shelves have 2 grooves on one panel and they are not level so some of shelves lean forward. It also came with a crack in one panel that the installer sealed to keep it from leaking.

            Know Before You Buy
The new Sterling STORE+ Alcove Bathtub with Wall Set is a piece of work. That is NOT A COMPLIMENT. This is all Vikrell (plastic) and if there is any fiberglass, it is embedded in the relatively thin plastic - not as a backing or reinforcement beyond the plastic surface on the reverse side. What tiny amount of fiberglass there is seems to be immediately below a thin (like heavy paint) surface of the tub - deep scratch = fiberglass! There is reinforcement on the bottom of the tub and behind the back panel of the surround - not on the end panels (see the pictures of the back panel). The reinforcement is a grid series of plastic panels protruding a small distance from the surface. The thickness of the end panel where valve/faucet hole is cut is 0.15" - just over 1/8". No printed instructions are packed and none available online. There is a video about installing the shower unit - not the tub / shower enclosure combination. The end panels have a major design flaw, in my opinion. There are two circular reinforcements that are a proper size for cutting a hole for the tub/shower faucet and valve - good idea and much needed. Major problems on these: (1) it is too low on the bottom to properly allow space for tub spout (2) these are placed in the center of the panel - which is well distant from the center of the tub (viz. above drain and overflow). Therefore, they are useless other than as a distraction from proper placement of hole for faucet. Oddly, Sterling knows this. They have a notation and set of lines to properly align the placement of the center of the valve/faucet and tub spout - several inches off to the side of the reinforcements (?) for the valve/faucet hole (see the pictures of the side panel). Sterling REFUSES to give any information about backer boards to be used with grab bars and how to implement them. They sell other models with backer boards in place for use with grab bars - at a SUBSTANTIALLY HIGHER PRICE. Since this model is not shown on the SterlingPlumbing.com website, it is not known if they are offered for this model. However, given the hardness and thinness of the material (hard + thin = brittle), it seems obvious they are necessary to prevent cracking / breaking. From the pictures, you can see where I put backer boards for a grab bar installed to the other side. A backer board seems necessary for the area where the tub spout and valve / faucet comes through the end panel, as well. I used 3/4" plywood for the backers with plenty of overlap beyond where holes are. If you do this - BE CAREFUL about using cements - I used silicone sealer - many cements are not recommended for use with plastics! If the in-store display had allowed a look at the back construction, I never would have gotten this unit. But after the tub is in, there isn't much choice left - especially with the bathroom torn apart and a contractor standing by to do the installation (surround wasn't picked up and opened until after installation of tub).

              We LOVE it!
My husband installed this himself. He's handy, but has never installed an insert before. It went well. I helped him insert the walls, and it was pretty smooth sailing. The tub is big and deep! It makes great use of its dimensions. My 6'2" husband appreciates its size! The wall inserts are nice and high. We love the modular corner shelves. There's so much room for shower products, we don't even fill all the shelves, and how cool that you can clean them in the dishwasher! I researched a lot before choosing this set. I have no negatives, and we have had it installed for a few weeks now. TIP: Bc my husband is tall, we hung the showerhead and the curtain rod a little higher than average, and it makes the shower feel even taller and bigger.

I have begun remodeling the bathroom in my 82 year old home. Older homes add more challenges. I found your STERLING Store+ 5 ft. Right-Hand Drain Rectangular Alcove Bathtub with Wall Set and 10-Piece Accessory Set in White easy to install. Especially given the age of the home. I am very pleased. My wife even more. I still have much more work to do and am looking forward to finishing the project.

I'm no stranger to the Sterling bath units by Kohler. If you're looking for a top notch product at a very reasonable cost, I'd look no further. It was about 25 years ago when I installed my first Sterling tub. Although this is still a work in progress for this particular tub, I took a couple photos in an attempt to explain things. The shower walls: They have notches in the bottom, and the tub has slots to where the walls fit. The shower walls also lock together in a unique fashion. These walls are screw directly to the studs. You'll want to make sure everything including the tub is SQUARE,PLUMB, AND LEVEL. Otherwise you will not get a good fit. I've included a picture of some of the wall system to store your needs. The tub: Very heavy duty. You do need to purchase the waste/drain system separately. I highly recommend considering a cable driven waste system. The tub has the slots for walls, but also nice size drip rail so water would be virtually impossible to leak at the wall and tub joint. DO follow manufacturers instructions. No short cuts please, and you'll enjoy yur soaking tub for years to come. Do consider mounting solid blocking for grab bars before the walls go up. This is a highly recommended product.

I am very happy with this tub. Very good quality - very sturdy - great storage, our plumber approved and said installation was easy. Caveat - Home Depot needs to improve their final destination shipping partners. The tub sat in STL in a warehouse for 10 days - we are a two hour drive away. I called them every day - the office staff were polite but the warehouse management leaves a lot to be desired. It backed up all of our sub contractors. The tub arrived in good condition but only one person to move a tub & surround up 8 steps into our house - I had paid extra for that service. Fortunately we had people here who could assist. So I am not impressed with their final destination partners as we could easily have had damaged goods.
