Q:After installation, can the skylight be easily removed from the frame? I'd like to use this in the roof of a well house to use equipment to pull the pump out of the well through the skylight hole.

    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  A rubber gasket can be used around the top of the curb to seal the skylight to the curb, instead of sealing the skylight to the curb with silicone, to allow for easy access.

Q:Is this low-e or does it offer heat/cold insulation?
      by|Jun 4, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  The CMA model is manufactured with 2 layers of polycarbonate. If you prefer Low-E glass, the CMG 2525 LoE340/Clear Bronze Frame model is the same size. This glass has a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of .18.

Fits good. Haven’t had a good rain yet. It has only been installed about 9 days. Everything is good so far.

          Flimsy construction
I originally bought this skylight and expected it to be less rigid than most since it’s polycarbonate rather than acrylic. However, it was so flexible that the dome flexed with a light push of your finger. Everything about it was lightweight and the metal frame just seemed flimsy. I ended up returning it and getting the Gordon acrylic skylight, which was much sturdier all around with a very solid frame and dome. I can’t complain of any specific problem with this, but it just didn’t seem durable.

The polycarbonate that Sun-Tek uses to form the domes is 30 times stronger than acrylic. The strength is in the flexibility. This dome could be placed on the ground and jumped on and it would pop back out into shape. Sun-Tek makes several Hurricane Impact rated models out of polycarbonate which, of course, must pass stringent testing to be meet the code.
Met my expectation; exactly as described
It does exactly what it says it does. Compared to the inflated value of other window products, this delivers good value. I am using it as a replacement dome for skylights from another manufacturer. The shipping and handling by Home Depot was perfect.

              Poor quality
What do you guys make? Windows for doll houses. How do you recommend anyone using your product. A paperbag is stronger. Whatever you do folks don't by. These windows are practically a scam.

Sun-Tek uses polycarbonate in manufacturing all of our domed models. Polycarbonate is 30 times stronger than acrylic. Since the gauge is thinner than acrylic, it can be mistaken for being flimsy; however, this is not the case. This model carries a 10 year warranty.

The CMA model is manufactured out of polycarbonate that is 30 times more impact resistance than acrylic. Acrylic skylights tend to be a thicker gauge and seem sturdier when, in fact, a thinner gauge of polycarbonate is much stronger.
