Questions & Answers

In the customer exterior photos the glass appears blue? Do they actually look blue or is that just the photo making them appear that way?
ByAug 3, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

The LoE340/Clear Tempered glass does have a bluish-grey tint which gives it a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of .18. This means that 82% of the heat is blocked from entering the living space.

How do you measure skylight window?
    ByAug 1, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

If there is an existing skylight in place and you want to replace it with the FGC self-flashing model, you will need to know the existing roof opening measurement OR inside finished opening (drywall) dimension. You can measure the drywall tunnel (length & width) right up next to the skylight to get the Finished Opening Dimension. The FGC 2549 fits a Finished Opening of 21 1/2" x 45 1/2".

Can this be mounted on a tile roof if a curb was fabricated to fit and is details available for curb application?
      ByJul 25, 2026
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

The FGC model is self-flashing, so it is not designed to be installed on top of a curb. The correct model to use on a tile roof would be the CMG 2549, which will soon be available on HomeDepot.com. This model does require the installer to build and flash the curb that the CMG will be installed on.

        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

The FGC model is self-flashed, so it does not require any extra flashing.

Hi I’m confused - the 14.5x46.5 skylight product specs show width of skylight to be 22” ??? Or something like that ? I have 18” between my roof joists / so what would work ?

              Answer This Question

The FGC 1749 model fits a Roof Opening of 14 1/2" x 46 1/2", which means it is designed for 16" on center spacing. The "larger" measurement you may have seen for this model was most likely the size of the box the product is shipped in.

                (1)

The window has flanges which reach a couple inches under the shingles on each side. So the it is significantly wider than the opening in the roof (14.5 inch).

Does this model (2549) have an NFRC Sticker to measure energy performance?

                  Answer This Question

Sun-Tek does not label this model with an NFRC sticker, but with a NAMI sticker instead. This model has a U-Factor of .24 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of .18.

                    Would NOT buy
First off my local HD is absolutely amazing they went above and beyond for me. But that pales in comparison to SunTeks product, their packaging or lack their of, quality control prior to shipping, and the customer service for product resolution. It’s pretty bad when HD employees at the Pro Desk are like ehhhh Sun Tek. I order 3 skylights, when they arrived the boxes they were shipped in looked really good so I thought ohhh I got lucky cause from previous reviews their is a continuous thread that these are prone to having the metal flanges bent(but SunTek easily resolves this issue). As you can see in the photos it looks to me that they were also damaged prior to shipping. Paint was scratched off the flange underneath the styrofoam corner and zero evidence of paint chips in the box. So someone obviously saw that and tossed it in anyways. Second, tried to reach out to SunTek and ask will the damage void warranty, can these still be installed, could we exchange and double box the next set or visually inspect prior to shipping them out. The answers were, no doesn’t void warranty, yes they can all you need to do is use vice grips or pliers and work the bends out, no we can’t double box because HD won’t allow us too due to shipping size/cost, no you can return and order more but we can’t guarantee a different outcome. So basically they don’t give two you know what’s. Also when I originally called they had asked for my order number, but then told me oh we can’t look up HD orders you have to go through Hd directly which is interesting because when I sent my email to follow up with trying to find a reasonable solution. They told me we don’t sell outside of HD. I had stated, if you needed me to setup a business account to order I can do that so the product can be double boxed and inspected prior to shipping, while their response was we only sell through HD which now contradicts what the SunTek employee asked me on the phone for my Purchase Order. Seems to me they want HD as a middle man so they can just point the finger at HD when their quality control prior to shipping is the issue not the shipping itself. Someone’s lying at SunTek I just don’t know who cause they contradicted themselves. Third and final - these are wide huge metal flanges that basically are your built in flashing so your new skylights don’t leak and cause damage on your new expensive roof but they are placing these directly on a cardboard box to ship. Allowing the most important part of the entire product to be susceptible to damage. I’ve seen better packaging for shoes. They have 4 small styrofoam corners on the top that really aren’t doing much at all. Final thoughts - I know people are buying these because the Velux is more expensive but I found exact same dimension “curb mount” Velux for the exact same price as these “deck mount” flange SunTeks and yes you have to buy these Velux flashing kits but keep in mind you also have to be flashing for SunTek which I had bought the not cheap Henry FortiFlash rolls(2) which came out to be very close in price to 3 Velux flashing kits. Then since I had such a terrible experience with SunTek HD pro desk went above and beyond for me and knocked some $$$ off which wound up making the Velux slightly cheaper in the end. So all in all I came out winning but is it frustrating to have it blow my roof timeline while we are having random rain in late June to where I have to tarp my roof deck so my snow and ice barrier and exposed sheathing doesn’t get destroyed….YES. But I’m pleased to be receiving a much more premium quality product from a company who actual cares that it’s not damaged and received by their customer in perfect condition.

                      Blue
Hope you like blue. Nothing says how tinted this is. I thought it was a film on the glass but it is just blue.

                        Sun-Tek Skylight
This is a really good, middle-of-the-road quality skylight. It had to be slightly modified to fit in the opening but I do not believe that it will affect the integrity of the skylight. It should last for a long time as did the original bubble plastic (polycarbonate) skylights. Please see picture to see how I am using them on my sundeck. N.C.

1 of 2 skylight arrived damaged. Every corner of the unit was bent up, the seal at the glass was damaged, the hardware was missing, no protective packaging. Also, there were No installation instructions in either skylight.
