    Q:My existing curb has outside dimensions of 22 1/2 * 46 1/2 - can I use the 2246 skylight with this?
    by|Nov 18, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  The MDCMA 2246 model fits an Outside Curb Dimension of 25 1/2" x 49 1/2". The skylight is manufactured with a 1/2" clearance all the way around, so the skylight measures 26 1/2" x 50 1/2". This model would be too large for your existing Outside Curb Dimension.

          Won’t Honor Warranty
Skylight started leaking about 18 months after installation. Contacted customer service to address the issue since it was still under warranty. Crossed all my T’s and dotted all my I’s, sent photos, filled out a lengthy form and sent references from my roofing company stating that it was, indeed, the skylight that was leaking to no avail. They eventually just chose to ignore me. Still have three other skylights that I’m holding my breath on. Would not recommend purchasing.
          Response from Sun-Tek Customer ServiceJan 18, 2024
Sun-Tek does have a warranty procedure that includes completing a one page checklist that asks pertinent questions to allow our Engineer to assess the problem. A photo of the skylight from the outside view enables Sun-Tek to see the installation. A photo from the inside view showing the entry point of the water helps to determine the cause of the leak. Proper installation is part of this warranty process, as we find that most issues entail improper installation. In rare occurrences, if a skylight has a defect, it will be evident immediately. A problem that develops over time is generally an installation problem.
Sun-Tek is more than willing to work with customers to provide a satisfactory outcome.
I was a little disappointed in my two orders of skylights. some came in w/heavy alum frames and the others didn't. The plastic domes are much too thin, very noisy in the heavy rains, and the set of screws came in some pkgs and alum. gasketed nails in others. But so far nothing has leaked! So, I guess I should be thankful for at least that! :)
            Response from Sun-Tek Customer ServiceNov 28, 2023
The gauge of decorative aluminum trim and types of fasteners will vary between models depending on whether the skylight is Hurricane Impact rated or not. All of Sun-Tek's domed models are made with polycarbonate which is 30 times stronger than acrylic.

These fit our old skylight dimensions perfectly ! They seem lighter than the old ones, but maybe that is a good thing. The bronze color on the outside looks beautiful. When the sun comes in, it does not looks bronze on the inside. These are great for us.

I thought I was going to spend 5 times more for an approved impact resistant Skylight but I was so surprised when I found this one. It was a direct drop in for my old one, and the insurance company reviewed all paperwork and certifications and gave me the appropriate discounts. Great quality
