Product Details

The Safer Brand The Japanese Beetle Trap uses a food and sex attractant to lure insects into the trap and disrupt the mating cycle. A controlled release system maximizes the life of the attractant and protects the attractant from environmental degradation. Comes with 1 trap, 1 lure, and 2 jumbo bags. Place this natural pest control trap at least 10 ft. away from plantings to prevent defoliation.

Q:Will this Japanese beetle trap attract June bugs? They started swarming the back porch at night, the last week of March (2022). I live in central Texas.

Answer This Question

A:  I can’t say for certain, but I do know that my trap only had Japanese beetles and no other type of insect became trapped or swarmed around it.  My guess would be no.

A:  This trap is not recommended for June Bugs.

      Answer This Question

A:  This trap is designed to only attract Japanese Beetles. Our testing has not shown that bees are affected.

A:  Yes safe for all bee's. Have used 2 types of these pheromone traps for 3 years. Found no bee's when I emptied trap bag in the Fall. Used dead beetles to fertilize flowers and shrubs.

          Answer This Question

A:  Placement of this trap will depend on where the plants that you want to protect are and which way the wind is blowing. We recommend placing traps on the generally upwind side of vegetable gardens, flower gardens, ornamental shrub plantings and other outside landscape plantings attacked by the beetles. Apply traps at the rate of one trap per 50 linear feet along two sides of plant perimeters. For example, if the site is 1 - 50 linear feet, place only one trap on each side of the two sides; if the site is 51 - 100 linear feet, place two traps on each of the two sides, etc. We do not recommend enclosing the treated sites with traps.

A:  I'd say two. The beetles will find them. Don't put them near anything that you are trying to keep the beetles away from, put them a distance away.

A:  In my yard, it was more a matter of how bad the infestation was, and which plants were involved. I have rose bushes across the front of my house that were heavily infested. The planting bed is about 75 - 100 feet. I used 4 during the worst infestation, spread out at intervals across my flower bed in front of the house. This worked well. I bought 2 more, just in case I needed more, but did not have to use them. The last 2 years, I have not had but a few beetles, so didn't need any more traps. My yard is 1.1 acres, but only had infestation in the front planting bed across the front of the house.

              Answer This Question

A:  I had the same experience as Tom. The pole was in one package, the bags in another, but the nursery where I bought them did not have the yellow vane part. It was not included in the package with the bags. The package pictured here is different than what I purchased. It may be a complete kit rather than the parts purchased separately, as I found.

              by|Jul 15, 2019

A:  The yellow vanes are included with the bag itself and are not available for purchase separately.

                by|May 5, 2023

A:  I did not have a pole, stand, or vanes when I purchased my beetle traps. I did not even know about those parts. I put an open paper clip through the top of the plastic, slipped a rubber band in the loop of the paper clip, and hung the bag on a branch of my rose bush. It worked just fine.

Might be made for these traps, but they are black and you can't tell how full they are without getting right over the bag. Do you know how bad those beetles stink? I would prefer some type of see thru bag. (IE: as what came with the original trap.)

Safer brand Japanese Beetle traps are working. They arrived a month later than last year - but they have still destroyed the ornamental bushes and trees. There are no sprays that work - but the traps have gathered 100's of them - I have replaced the bags already. I am also using products for ground to kill source - maybe next year it will be better - But I highly recommend these traps to help
