What is your cheapest half inch 4x8 sheet of plwood

Asked by Mink April 17, 2021

Mink - A difficult question to answer directly. A little bit of comparison shopping on the Home Depot website or at the store should answer your question. However - First, note the dimensions you state are what are called, "nominal", meaning in this case, the sheets are just a little bit thinner, shorter and narrower. For instance what is called 1/2" (16/32") plywood is actually 15/32". Finding true 4x8x1/2 product may prove difficult. Check the specifications listed on the Home Depot website or at your local store for the exact dimensions. If the actual dimensions of the product suit your needs, then go from there. Plywood comes in different grades depending on intended use, for instance interior, exterior, cabinet grade, marine, etc Pick the wrong one and you will not be satisfied with the results and your project may not last very long. You list price as the only consideration. This may be fine if your project is a base for a model train layout or a shipping crate to be used only a few times. Anything else and you need to do some research or ask a Home Depot associate for some guidence. Finally, the price of construction materials in general and lumber in particular are in a state of flux and are trending upward in most cases. The price you see on the rack or website today may be different tomorrow or next week.

To save us some cutting, we have been buying these to turn into signs for the Des Moines Renaissance Faire. They are cheap and convenient. We have been staining and aging the board, then they end up looking really good.
