Instructions to replace existing thermostat

Answer This Question

Please refer to the Interactive User Guide and Schluter®-DITRA-HEAT Installation Handbook for complete DITRA-HEAT system installation instructions. 1. DITRA-HEAT-E-RT must be installed in an electrical box. A single gang, deep electrical box or a double gang electrical box with a single gang mud ring is recommended to provide room for the wiring. 2. The power supply must be shut off and all electrical connections must be made by a qualified person, according to the electrical and building codes effective in your region. 3. Connect the heating cable ground braid to the ground wire from the electrical panel. 4. Remove the faceplate from the thermostat power base by loosening the screw and tilting the thermostat upward. Remove the back cover clip as well. 5. For ease of installation, form the electrical line wires into an “M” or accordion shape. This will make it easier to fold them neatly into the electrical box. Loosen the load screws at the top of the thermostat until they stop. 6. Insert the heating cable conductors into the load terminals from the bottom. Since there is no polarity, either heating cable conductor can be connected to either load terminal. 7. Secure the conductors by tightening the screws. 8. Insert the electrical line wires into the line terminals from the top. Refer to the back of thermostat for proper wiring configuration. 9. Secure the wires by tightening the screws and fold the wires into the electrical box. 10. Align and secure the thermostat power base to the electrical box. 11. Thread the floor temperature sensors through the opening at the bottom right of the thermostat power base. Tape up the secondary floor temperature sensor and secure to the power base. 12. Strip the ends of the floor temperature sensor to expose the wires for ease of installation. Insert the floor temperature sensor wires into terminals C and D. Note that the floor temperature sensor wires have no polarity and can be interchanged between C and D terminals. Tighten the screws to secure the wires. 13. The power, heating cable, and floor temperature sensor connections are now complete. Replace the thermostat faceplate and tighten the screw at the bottom of the unit. Note: Two DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cables can be connected and controlled by a single DITRA-HEAT-E-RT thermostat if the total current is less than 15 amps. The heating cable leads must be wired in parallel according to applicable electrical and building codes. Multiple DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cables over 15 amps cannot be connected to a single DITRA-HEAT-E-RT thermostat. Additional DITRA-HEAT-E-RT thermostats must be used, or the DITRA-HEAT-E-RT thermostat may be combined with the DITRA-HEAT-E-RR power modules.

Is this unit the same as OJ Microline UWG4-4999? I have a King system and they show that model as compatible and it looks identical to this one.

          Answer This Question

This thermostat is designed for use with Schluter Ditra-Heat heating cables. It's not the same as the OJ Microline UWG4-4999. Using components from different manufacturers with your King system isn't recommended as it could void warranties and may not function correctly. It's best to use the thermostat recommended by King for your specific system.

IF I CURRENTLY HAVE A NON-PROGRAMMABLE DHERT103/BW MODEL, CAN I EASILY SWAP IT FOR THIS MODEL?
          ByDec 3, 2018
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

I have only used the programmable model. It wires directly to the flooring wire, thermostat cord and the incoming power. If the size is the same, it should swap out perfectly. A few simple electrical connections.

If I currently have a non-programmable DHERT102/BW model, can I easily swap it for this model?

            Answer This Question

I don't see why not since it is just a thermostat control for a wired floor heating system.

Just go to Schluter's website and search through their manuals at https://www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/downloadfiles. The installation guide and handbooks for a variety of models are in their library.

It is very easy to program. Touch the adjust button and follow the prompts. There are also videos out there on Youtube that may be helpful also. Good luck! You will love the warm floor.

I was replacing a similar thermostat (but that had WiFi connectivity - that I never used) and this was a perfect replacement. The old thermostat had a failed power output relay. Schluter was excellent in helping me diagnose the issue and suggested this less expensive replacement. (I was very happy that I didn’t have a break in the heating wire somewhere under my tile floor!). Home Depot had a great price and free delivery sooner than other options.

Works well, but install was difficult as stiff load wires racked some of the plastic on the back.

Very clear instructions on installation, and this was our first Schluter diy install. User manual for setup is also clear and has programmable options. Floor takes a bit to heat up (noticable difference within few minutes but can take an hour or so to increase floor temp by 10 degrees or more on porcelain tile) Overall feels great and would recommend to anyone considering radiant floor heat.

I recently purchased the Ditra-Heat Programmable Touchscreen Thermostat to pair with a new Schluter floor-heating installation, and I’m extremely impressed with both the build quality and the user experience. The thermostat feels solid and well-designed, with a clean, modern touchscreen that looks just as good in a residential hallway as it does in a utility room.

Easy to install and setup and programming were easy. Triggers floor heating consistently. Simple interface. In order to put it in away or vacation mode you need to manually set the temperature lower and it'll stay off schedule.

Works perfectly as a replacement unit for my schluter floor heat system. Old unit lasted 7 years and since I have another system installed in another bathroom will order another as a backup.
