Questions & Answers

Is the aluminum treated? Will it turn black or change color after getting wet in shower?

Asked by: Olivia
I’m not quite sure if it’s treated but you can probably ask someone who works for Home Depot if they know. We used this product about two years ago and it has held up well in two different showers where we used it.

Can I install it with glass mosaic tile?

I would like to finish the edges of a glass mosaic tile backsplash with this trim. Can I? Or the trim is too heavy for glass mosaic?
Asked by: Thomas
yup, it works with any tile although I think it looks best with tiles less than 3/8" thick. We installed with glass tiles and it looks great.

How do you cut this to size?

Do you need a special tool to cut this piece?
Asked by: tdawg
You can use tin snips, a small hobbyist miter saw, or even a non-ferrous cut-off saw blade. You would finish off with a fine file to smooth out any rough edges. Be sure to wear eye protection for the last option. How to cut it is good to know, as the trim only comes in 8' 2 1/2" lengths, unless your local Home Depot offers them in shorter sections.

How would I install this over concrete?

What kind of screws, drilling, etc is needed to do this?
Asked by: Joey
This edging installs by being embedded into the same mortar used to adhere the tile to the concrete. You can see from the illustration that you use your trowel to press the flat base of the trim into the mortar. The trim has a built-in spacer to ensure there will be an even grout line between the tile and the trim. Once the trim is in place, you trowel more mortar up to it, and place the tile as usual.
