Watch out for the mulch
I bought a coue of bags to reseed a couple of 3x4 areas. As the grass seed has grown in you need to rake out the mulch. The grass is much thinner in those spots because of the mulch.once the soil settles you really see how much mulch there is

We're sorry to hear you weren't satisfied with Scotts Turf Builder LawnSoil and we appreciate your feedback. Although small pieces of wood and other organic materials are intentional components of our soils, there should not be an excessive amount. Scotts calls this soil…I think not
This “lawn soil” is awful and way to expensive to be called lawn soil. Too much bark, sticks and chunks of wood plus some added plastic garbage and rocks which was even more disappointing. Unfortunately I bought 5 bags of this crap and since I had already prepared the yard for seeding I couldn’t take the time to return it so I had to use it. Hopefully the Scotts seed I bought will sprout and grow. Wood chips are not good for the lawn as it causes fungus and mushrooms ugh! Will never buy this again! Also purchased Scotts topsoil which was a little better but still had bark pieces just not as much

      Mostly wood chips.
This is more like mulch than soil. Washes away easily. Don't see any grass coming up after two weeks.

Not Recommended...full of stones and bark/mulch
I bought this lawn soil as a top dressing layer to over seed some bare patches in my lawn. It may be advertised as guaranteed weed free, which may be the case, but the bags I bought were full of stones, rocks, twigs and clumps of bark and mulch. Not conducive at all to grass seed growth and so far none of the seed I put down has sprouted (even though I have followed the instructions as directed). I was expecting a much better product from Scotts, and I am quite disappointed.
          Scotts turf builder LawnSoil Review
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this product as a base to start new grass seed in a worn section of lawn. After cultivating the worn area I applied the lawn soil and then Scotts grass seed on top working it slightly into the soil. After several weeks I have had minimal grass growth even after watering regularly. I am not impressed with this product! I have had better luck in the past using peat moss along with grass seed to repair an area.

Allan, we're sorry to hear Scotts products didn't perform as expected. When planting grass seed, temperatures should be consistently between 60-80 degrees. Reach out to us here if we can assist you further: https://tinyurl.com/y8nvfsca
            Mulch sold as soil
This isn’t soil, it’s Scott’s mulch blended with some compost.

Very powerful seed that gets the job done.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This couldn't come at a better time since we started to landscape around our house. We had torn up rock while leaving mud everywhere. We needed grass fast since it's been raining non stop. We threw down the bag all around the area and not even a couple weeks later we had grass! I was impressed by what this product was able to do in such a short time. Granted the weather hasn't held up quite well even after spreading the seed but it's working so far.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn’t care for this product to put over yard or to plant new seed. It has pieces of wood like what is in mulch. Once you water it and the topsoil settles down you see the little pieces of wood. When grass starts to grow you are picking it out of the grass. I prefer the Scott’s premium topsoil for planting seed. The Scott’s Turf Builder Lawn Soil I feel would be better for the flower garden.
Great addition to an old yard
This spring we noticed a lot more weeds in our front yard. We spent several days pulling them and were left with a lot of bare spots. We added in the Scotts Turf Builder lawn soil when planting new grass seed and I believe was one of the main reasons grass has grown so quickly! The bags were filled with a soil and mulch like products. Other reviews stated that they found "junk inside" but we had no issues! We were able to spread the lawn soil very easily and evenly throughout our bare spots in the yard. We did mix this with our old soil before spreading the grass seeds. Then we covered the areas up with more lawn soil, packed it down and watered twice a day. We were hoping by packing it down, the birds would leave it alone. I do like the way the lawn soil looks when spread and how well it helps hold in the moisture from the daily watering. We have had grass start growing about about 5 days! I would definitely look into using the Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Soil!
                  Wow!! Look at my Lawn!!
I had to lay some sod and used Scott’s lawn soil!! A few weeks later….. my lawn now looks GREAT!
