It's measured in cubic feet (1.5), but the weight varies somewhat based on how much water has been absorbed. I would guess it is an average of about 45-50 lbs.

DO NOT BUY - Too much mulch
At the beginning of spring I tore out my old lawn and used this as a leveler and mixed in with my existing soils to put down Growtrax Bermuda/Rye. A few months later, I'm left with thick patches of mulch on my lawn where the dirt settled to the bottom and mulch stayed on top. These areas will not grow grass since it's pretty much a clump of mulch. I'd say this is 60-75% mulch. I had a few extra bags left so I went out and opened them to take pictures. I wish I paid more attention when I put it down in the first place. You'd really need to sift this out pretty well and waste at least half the bag to use it on a lawn.

Works great. Planted new lawn and needed more soil to facilitate covering bald spots with new seed. Turf Builder did the trick. I now have an excellent dark green plush lawn as if it were carpet.

lawn killer soil
I bought 6 bags of Scotts lawn soil and spread them on my front lawn. One of the bags has killed all the grass on a 3 yard by 3 yard area. If you are willing to take the chance and have you grass killed then by Scotts lawn killer soil. The 6 bags were purchase in April, 2021 from the Home Depot location in Bothell, WA.

You don’t get what you pay for-sticks & plastic
Ordinarily I believe that paying a price for premium products but you better results. In this case I bought a bag just under $8 and it’s filled with sticks between 1-4” about 1/4-3/4” in diameter. I also quickly found a 1/2” dia. plastic ball. Later found what looks like a 3/4” dia. plastic button or wheel from a toy! Who knows what other plastic parts I shoveled into my yard? For the price I could’ve bought 2 40lb bags of the generic top soil and a bag of compost + manure. Which I actually did at the same purchase and got much better content than this top end soil product. I should’ve known because I used Scott’s regular top soil in my front yard a couple years ago and the spots that don’t grow grass still have the sticks from the bags I used then.

Weeds Galore
I used 20 bags of Scott’s Lawn Soil to repair 8 areas of my lawn. After leveling the soil I used Scott’s EZ Seed. After weeks of watering every place I used Scott’s Lawn Soil is full of weeds as pictured. I’ll be applying a broadleaf herbicide soon but it will probably kill the young grass also and I’ll be back to square one.

AVOID STAY AWAY
Purpose of topsoil. I used for reseeding my lawn. I bought this dirt from 2 different brick and mortar stores. I needed more because the first store was moldy, wet, stick bark, rocks ,and look more like flower planter ground coverage. The other much better but still alot of sticks, bark better dirt. Never had issues Scott's I feel maybe contracted company really messed up. Abound the heavier bags is the secret! Good luck and I hope this helps.

really worth it for home projects
i am currently edging driveway and have build up the lawn edge. i have a gravel driveway going in and want to boarder it to keep stone in and out of yard. first clean area with rake. seen alot of pics and none i seen saying this product is bad has been cleaned and put down. yes it has twigs part of the "builder" part. if you want just soil buy top soil. i have so far bought 10 bags and have not encountered any glass or plastic like some reviews are saying. also those photos show down the road not fresh. this is black looks like mulch color almost while u put it down. i am getting some top soil to put on and then seed. i using this to cover build up edges and hills to make a great foundation and soil.
