3 rolls total purchase. Two of the 3 rolls were missing the paper starter strip. Getting the roll started was difficult on the two with the missing strip. Mat material was sparse in many places. I did have trouble with the netting material coming loose from the mat. Unless the mat is staked down (per the instructions / not included) expect the netting to catch and the product will curl up. The blanket has been in place for a week so too soon to see how the seed retention worked. We have had light rain and snow. So far there does not seem to be much displacement of the soil. Stopping soil displacement was the main reason for purchase because of the slope of the yard in the area where the product was applied. The reason for a 3 and not recommended; missing starter strip on 2 of 3 rolls leading to difficulty in unrolling and keeping the netting attached.

Does the job
It's straw, held together with thin plastic netting. It was mostly easy to unroll, though I had some trouble with one edge tangling and sticking together as I got toward the end of the roll. It cuts with scissors but I'd recommend using a utility knife as it dulled the scissor blades pretty badly. Used two rolls with a 3 lb. bag of shade seed mix and landscaping staples, no fertilizer, to cover approximately 500 square feet of dirt and sparse weeds. The grass seed stayed in place through daily watering and germinated, almost ready to be mowed two weeks later. I don't know how everything will hold up or what will happen when I mow over it per the directions. I like the natural look of the product (from a distance it looks like a winter-dormant lawn) and the fact that it is biodegradable.

Didn’t think about all the plastic line. It’s a horrible hazard. The sprinkle gets caught. It unravels. Now I’m worried that the long lines will get caught on things and maybe even mess up the lawn mower.

Seed Germination Blanket is TRASH!
Impossible to unroll and the "straw" was very uneven. If we could get a section unrolled, which was very difficult at best, we found that the straw was thick in some spots and completely bare in others. Absolutely the worst product I've ever purchased from Home Depot. We threw it away. Save your money...DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

It Shouldn't Be Called A Roll - It Doesn't!
Bought four of these. First one had a starter tab. Was a little tight, and some areas were bare or over stuffed, but it all layed down fine. The next two I tried absolutely refused to unroll cleanly - the netting seemed to tangle between layers. The areas that I could get down were about 6" thick in one place, naked in another. I stopped even trying they were so bad. Returned the last one. Gonna try some old fashioned baled straw if I can find it these days.
