Doesn’t do square cuts
Good blade and cutting capability but just will not do a square cut. You will end up with over 50% cuts with uneven angles in the cut though a very clean edge.

Hello, we are sorry to hear about the issue you experienced with the SharkBite Pipe Cutter. For this pipe cutter, once you press the handles down fully, cutter needs one full rotation to make a square cut. Please reach out to our Customer Service Team at 1-877-700-4242 so we can learn more about the issue and help with a solution. SharkBiteCashAcme

Not great for 1/2" pex
We were worried about getting square cuts on the pex using a hacksaw or utility knife, so we ran down to Home Depot and bought this cutting tool. I was wary after reading the mixed reviews about whether or not it cuts 1/2 pex well. I can now safely say it does not. We tried various methods of one of use holding both ends of the pex to make sure it was straight while in the cutter, but nothing worked. we ended up with far too many curly ends and had to use the utility knife to clean them up. Cutting them with a utility knife alone in the first place gave just as good results. I can see how it would work better for larger diameter pex, since the issue with the 1/2 is that the tool doesn't grip and hold the pipe in place, the tool is just slightly too large. Good luck everyone!

works great
Got to try this cutter out on some 1/2" pex today it does a nice clean and straight cut just slide your pipe in and turn the cutter in the direction of the arrow that's on the handles and within a handful of turns your pipe is cut and ready to install. This is much better and faster than using a hacksaw and does a neater job makes life much easier.

Beats shear-stye cutters
This is a great PEX cutter. I prefer this over shear or plier style cutters, where two handles are squeezed together. The operation is identical to using a regular copper tubing cutter, except there is no pressure regulation needed. The natural flex of the plastic used in the construction of the cutter applies pressure to help the cutter get through and maintain cutting pressure and contact while spinning it around the PEX. This cutter is lightweight and seems to be durable. It can withstand one story drops. The tool does have some arrows on the sides to indicate the direction to spin the tool around the tubing. I do not believe that the plastic of the tool will fail. I think the first thing to go will be the cutting blade itself, and since it is not removable or replaceable, it will make this tool disposable. However, I think it will take a very, very long time and a lot of cuts to ever dull this blade to the point where it will no longer cut PEX tubing anymore. Overall, a great tool that has earned it's place in my plumbing gear.

Fast and easy
At approximately 4'' x 2'' this pex pipe cutter is an easy and inexpensive tool to use. The cutter when squeezed easily fits over the pipe and then a simple turn or two and poof, the pipe is cut. The bonus is there are no moving parts to wear out or break down. Simply simple to use. I use a lot of the pex tools and pipe fittings and am very pleased at their ease of use.

Simple But Good for Small Jobs
Pros..Simple to use; Small enough to get into small spaces; rugged enough to survive in your toolbox; usable for 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch tubing. Cons...If used a lot, when the blade dulls you will have to get another cutter; for 1/2 inch PEX, slight movement in the jaws of the tool will result in a slightly less than square cut; With time (or really cold weather) the plastic may get brittle. Conclusion: For occasional use handy to have in the toolbox. The slightly "non-square" cut will not prevent proper sealing in push-on fittings (like Sharkbite).

Works on poly pipe as well
Designed to be used on Pex pipe from 1/2" to 1" in diameter it does the job as advertised. It makes a nice clean squared off cut unlike a razor knife or pair of shears. When you get up into the 1" diameter pipe it's a bit tougher to use because of the effort it takes to squeeze the grip to open the jaws. Because you have to rotate the cutter around the poly pipe it is easier to make your cuts before attaching your fittings. The cutter is constructed entirely of orange plastic except for the blade which looks like it is just steel. No way to replace the blade though so if you use it often enough to dull the blade it's time to just buy a new one. I find it also works pretty well on irrigation poly pipe.
