Pex A (like Uponor Pex) is superior to Pex B. Pex A ring seals, using an expansion tool (I recommend the Dewalt or Milwaukee Pex expansion tools) for the Pex A pipe ends actually tighten over time and since they're made of non-metallic material can be buried. Pex A is also much more "bendable" than Pex B and not as stiff. However, it is more expensive than Pex B as well. These plastic fittings will work fine on Pex A or Pex B with metal rings and of course a crimp tool. (You CANNOT use the Pex A expansion ring fittings on Pex B). I used the stainless steal bands on my Pex B with these plastic fittings and they work fine, no leaks. Also, these plastic fittings and Sharbite's work fine on both Pex A and Pex B. The downside of these fittings to me is that they greatly reduce the inside diameter of your water line so I would use them only at or very near your fixtures to avoid downstream reduced flow issues.

Would this connector reduce my water flow to a shower or to my kitchen sink? the diameter seems much smaller

Every 90° fitting in a system reduces flow the same amount as 120 FEET of equal diameter pipe. From a flow dynamics standpoint, when water hits that 90, it STOPS, completely... but only for milliseconds. Still, it does create a lot more flow restriction than most non-plumbers could really comptehend. Source: Master Plumber with 50+ yrs experience thats held "A licences" for fresh and waste water treatment in Texas for ~40 years. He wrote the chapter on "optimization and utilization" standards that are used nationwide. Bottom line: unless you add a lot of 90's in the run, you shouldn't notice any flow reduction considering how small the orifices are in low-flow fixtures to start with.

Pex fittings by Shark Bite is the way to go. When my house was built 50 years ago copper supply plumbing seemed the way to go- but acidic water over the years have taken its toil on the copper. Pex seems the way to replace the copper. During any re-modeling project or repair I am gradually replace the old copper supply lines with pex/ These plastic fittings are well made, inexpensive and seem to be the best alternative- the plastic is not bothered by the acidic water.

This, SharkBite 12 in. Plastic PEX 90-Degree Barb Elbow (5-Pack) came has promised. Seeing the contents through the package, you can see the quality of product is very durable! I've used SharBite Products in the past and the availability of their product and durability has been second to none. I'm looking forward to installing these when the weather breaks. I have already sketched out the new irrigation lines and the amount of these 90-degree Barbs are exactly what I need to complete the product.

Do not use these to replace copper piping for bathroom remodeling. Inside diameter is much smaller than 1/2 inch copper. Water flow and pressure will be affected.. fired my contractor over it half way through renovations. He insisted it wasn't the problem - I said pack up and get out. If you are doing a job do it right and don't take the cheap route.

Hello,

You are correct in that the ID of PEX is smaller than Copper. Copper is 0.527" ID and PEX is 0.475" ID, both have an OD of 0.625" which is 1/2" Copper Tube Size. A 1/2" PEX Barb fitting has an OD of 0.475" and an ID of 0.315". Flow and pressure loss is more likely being caused by all of the additional elbows and bends the contractor on this job rather than the fittings themselves. If flow loss from the fittings is a concern they could use Push-to-Connect fittings which seal on the OD of the pipe. My recommendation would be to cut out the existing plumbing as far up as you can on the copper and use a coupling on the hot and cold line come straight down and then use an elbow to connect to the incoming lines. We apologize for the poor experience you had here if we can further assist you in anyway please feel free to call our customer service line at 1-877-700-4242. Thanks! SharkBiteCashAcme

beat the high price of aquarium parts
I find these plastic fittings are perfect for aquarium use, where you want no metal. These fit up nicely with the 12mm silicone tubing of my filters, and allow all sorts of useful configurations to be inexpensively assembled in combination with the standard filter fittings and 1/2" PEX tubing. Attached is a picture of one such invention. The inline Tee allows me to get double-duty from a single external filter - both drawing water directly through the side-mounted strainer, and through the 'under-gravel' plate. The tee in the picture is not actually a PEX part, but a hose fitting that I modified to fit. The PEX part would have fit with no modification if I had had one at the time. These fittings are solidly made and smoothly finished, and are rated for real plumbing use. It is a very hard sort of plastic that is designed for crimping, although I would still prefer brass for this sort of use.
