SharkBite PEX tubing is a cross-linked polyethylene tubing for a wide range of residential and commercial plumbing applications. Manufactured with an oxygen barrier for radiant floor and hydronic heating applications (available in orange). The oxygen diffusion barrier applied to the exterior limits oxygen permeation through the tubing wall in hydronic heating applications which prevents corrosion of ferrous metal parts in the heating system. A repeating SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to determine if the tube has been inserted all the way into the SharkBite Push-to-Connect Fitting. This feature only works if the tubing is cut between the SharkBite imprint pattern.
  • Strong, flexible, resilient pipe that provides superior temperature performance
  • Oxygen barrier helps prevent the corrosion of ferrous metal parts in the heating system
  • Flexibility reduces number of fittings needed to complete a job; reducing cost and leak points
  • Can be installed wet or dry for immediate pressure testing
  • SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to ensure pipe is fully inserted when using SharkBite push-to-connect fittings
  • SharkBite system provides a variety of connection options, SharkBite PEX can be connected with SharkBite push-to-connect fittings or barbed fittings
  • Manufactured and tested to meet or exceed the requirements of the ASTM F-876/877/2023 and CSA B137.5

Answer

Hello, If your system has ferrous metal components we would recommend the use of SharkBite oxygen barrier PEX tubing to keep oxygen permeation to a minimum. If your system does not contain ferrous metal components standard SharkBite PEX tubing (red, white or blue in color) may be used. Please note that we do not recommend painting our PEX tubing. Please also note that the tubing will need to be protected from UV and the maximum temperature for SharkBite PEX tubing is 200°F at 80 psi. If you have additional questions please don't hesitate to reach out to our technical support department at 877-700-4242. Best Regards,

Is this product rated for outdoor use?

Answers

I would advise using it inside use only. Outside products used need to be uv stable and must be able to be frozen without being compromised in cold climates. I would not use this product outside. It is made and works well for its intended purpose. Have used it for 3 seasons inside as designed and worked well for me.

Yes, SharkBite PEX pipe is approved to AWWA C904 which covers PEX pipe in regards to burial. Be sure to check with local, city or state codes to see if the pipe needs to have sleeves or any type of protective burial for your area. PEX pipe can be used as a service line based on its corrosion resistance to soil and water, its long life, and its oxidative resistance. The pex performs as one would expect pex to perform, flexible yet a bit stiff. ( Careful not to bend beyond it's recommended turning radius to avoid kinks) you'll also want to be careful unspooling the pex, if you try to uncoil the spool of pex without rotating the coil you'll likely end up with a twisted mess as the tension builds up. But once you get familiar with the product it's nice to work with.

The installation went well. I only needed 30' of pipe and the smallest coil in the store was 100'. So I am now left with 70' of 3/4" heatng pipe that I will never use. It would have been nice to purchase the pipe by the foot for such a small job.
