About This Product

SharkBite Max flexible water heater connectors are the fastest and easiest way to connect your water heater to existing pipes in your home. A newly designed stainless steel collet retainer delivers additional strength and durability and provides a 200 psi pressure rating. SharkBite Max connectors do not require a PEX tube liner, and a re-engineered body allows you to insert the pipe using less force and greater ease. No soldering, clamps, unions, glue, or special tools required. After inserting to pipe, stainless steel teeth bite down and grip the pipe tightly while a specially formulated O-ring compresses around the pipe to create a watertight seal. The flexible stainless steel braided hose reduces the need for extra joints or fittings, allowing for faster installs. Available in additional lengths (12 in. to 24 in.) and with integrated ball valve shut off.

Q:What adapter do I need in order to connect the compression end to an FIP valve?

    Answer This Question

    A:  3/4/ male adapter and 3" nipple

    by|Dec 6, 2018

A:  You need a threaded nipple to go from the female iron pipe thread on the valve to the shark bite fiitting. If you shop in store, the associates in plumbing can be very helpful.

A:  We need more clarification about your project to answer correctly. Please contact Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

      by|Nov 19, 2018

A:  By "compression end" I take it you are referring to the Shark Bite end? This pushes onto a standard 3/4' copper pipe. "FIP" (female iron pipe) you would simply solder a male thread adaptor onto the copper pipe. There are Shark Bite fittings also for this.

          by|Oct 14, 2018

A:  No it can not be installed underground.

            by|Oct 13, 2018

A:  If the fittings are the same size? I don’t see why not Tom

              by|Oct 13, 2018

A:  I wouldn't place any part of this in contact with the ground. It's intended for above-ground connections to a water heater, which would normally be indoors, or in a cabinet outdoors.

                by|Nov 1, 2019

A:  SharkBite Universal fittings are suitable for burial in most applications; however care is required when using fittings in applications that require burial to ensure the correct installation practices are used and due care is given to any environmental factors that may have a detrimental effect on the life expectancy of the fittings and pipe. The installation of SharkBite Universal fittings in applications that will require the burial of the fitting must comply with all local plumbing code requirements. SharkBite Universal fittings and SharkBite PEX are not suitable for use in areas where the soil is or may become contaminated* including the soil used for back filling. All SharkBite Universal fittings with brass bodies must have an impervious barrier between the fitting and the surrounding soil. Self-fusing, formaldehyde and chloride-free, fully cured silicone tape with a minimum thickness of 0.020″ should be used for this purpose. The soil used for back filling must be free of rocks, debris or any sharp objects that may cause damage to the fitting or pipe through impact or abrasion. If you have further questions, please contact Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

A:  This connector will work anywhere normal pipeworks. Faster to install, will never break loose, and has flexx in it so you don't get sound transfer

A:  No, I would not use these supply lines , they will not hold up to chlorine and hard water which eats up the inside ( rubber ) overtime, therefore getting black residue in your lines and black rubber micro pieces of rubber in the water supply. There are solid stainless inside and out. Get these supply lines that have no rubber inside. I would also suggest using PVC washers in you can, if not rubber washers will work, but not as good, as they will break down overtime. The water softener can be added into the system and you'll be fine. Here is a link to the supply lines, they come in several lengths and diameters. Good luck ! https://www.homedepot.com/p/15-in-x-3-4-in-FIP-x-3-4-in-FIP-Corrugated-Stainless-Steel-Water-Supply-Connector-7215-15-34FIP/204400876

I installed a new pool & screen enclosure. I didn't have water access inside of encloser. So, using a splitter off of outside spicket I used a SharkBite (3/4 X 3/4 FIP 18") to 3/4" SharkBite 90-degree elbow to 3/4" CPVC piping. Drilled a 1" hole in screen enclosure SUPPORT RAIL & mounted SharkBite 3/4 x 3/4 Inch MHT 45 Degree Hose Bibb. Awesome engineering & thanks to SharkBite no LEAKS!

DO NOT BUY! They deteriorate after a few years.
DO NOT BUY! The black rubber on the inside in these will deteriorate after a few years and start to chunk off. The black rubber will chunk off into your drinking water and when it gets into your bathtub it smears and is impossible to clean off. These should be recalled! No where does it say that these are not permanent and need to be replaced every few years. Absolute garbage!

                                Hose failure
BEWARE! 10 years ago I installed these on my water heater along with a shark bite shutoff valve. Several months ago I started getting oily black flecks and flakes in my bathtub. I checked my faucets and found it there also. I suspected the shark bite hoses and went to replace them. The valve had also failed and I had to shut the water off to the house. The fittings were impossible to get off with the SB tool and had to call a plumber. The hoses had deteriorated and contaminated my entire hot water system. $300 later the problem was fixed but I’m still dealing with the mess in my hot water system. Still don’t know the extent of the damage to my fixtures and appliances. NEVER AGAIN!

                                  Horrible quality
Purchased and installed in April 2022. Its now the end of August and i have black flecks of the rubber all throughout my plumbing. I found out after a kitchen sink and a bathroom sink lost hot water pressure days apart. According to Sharkbite they fixed this issue years ago, clearly its not the case. Now i have to replace the hoses, flush out the plumbing in the house, and have to replace 2 faucets now and who knows about the others. I’ve attached pics of the rubber flecks from the pipes.

Failed within a year, rubber specs in water
Our plumber used these to install the new water heater from HD. We had to turn up the water heater to setting “B” (140 degrees) as we use a recirculating line (no pump) and the sharkbite fitting failed with rubber specs appearing in the tub and elsewhere. The cold water line was fine, it was the hot water line. We replaced them with copper flex lines. See photos.

I'm busy replacing the PVC pipes that connect to my water heater with PEX piping. These SharkBite hose assemblies make for a quick and easy connection to my new PEX ready water distribution manifold. Water heaters come standard with 3/4 inch MIP fittings so the FIP connector on the SharkBite screws on with no problems. The other end of the SharkBite hose has a Push-Fit connector for my PEX pipe. It will also accept copper or PVC pipe.
