This is a very nice honing rod. I ran a few knives across it to see how well it worked. If your knife is reasonably sharp, this 10" sharpening steel will improve the sharpness of your knife. Since this device is designed to hone and not really sharpen (despite the name of the product) it will not bring a really bad knife back to sharpness, which is what occurred with some of my really dull blades. It has a comfortable grip and a nice big hand guard to keep you from honing your hand. There is also a loop in the end if you want to hang it. There are easy to follow directions on the box if you are not sure how to use a honing rod.

Sharpening Steel First off, this is a great product: easy to hold, easy to use and a perfect size for just about any knife you have in your kitchen. Second, and more importantly: This product DOES NOT sharpen your knives. It will re-align the cutting edge of the knife; fixing curling or imperfections on the knife. If the knife is dull it won’t make it any sharper. You might think it seems sharper, and that’s because the edge is straight. To sharpen a knife, you need a knife sharpener or a whetstone (preferred) to actually remove material from the knife to create a sharper edge. The fact that this product is called a ‘Sharpening Steel’ is confusing, but Honing steels are sometimes referred to as such. I can’t find anything to say if this Steel is coated in ceramic or diamond abrasive, but based on appearance and feel I would have to say that it is not coated and the Steel has just been etched. As far as performance, this Steel does an adequate job of ‘honing’ my knives. I do feel a cutting difference if I don’t hone certain knives regularly, which certainly suggests its doing what it is intended to do. The handle is comfortable and the guard is wide to prevent injury. Ten inches is long enough for all my knives. I’d think you need a pretty long knife to require a Steel longer than ten inches. Recommended for anyone who cares about their knives!

10in. Sharpening Rod, East to use to sharpen and align edges on knife, comes with a soft rubber grip handle with a hanging hook on the end of the handle for east hanging, Over sized hand guard, easy to follow instructions I like the idea of placing the sharpener on a cutting board and sharpening is done in a down motion, Very reasonably priced a lot cheaper then culinary stores, yes I would recommend.

Honestly, I thought I'd have to use my sharpening stone first... but the sharpening steel straightened out the edge of my main cutting knife so it cuts meat and tendons like butter In fact I half @$$ed used it on my dullest knife and got it "functional". (I use that one to cut food packaging plastic and not to cut food so it doesn't have to be all that sharp but I know I can get it really sharp if I wanted to).

Received the 10 inch sharpening tool and am very happy with it. It is very easy to use. much easier than the wet stone I was using previously. I use the sharpening tool every time I use my knives. A dozen or so quick swipes of the blade across the sharpening tool and the blade is razor sharp. I would definitely recommend this sharpening tool to anyone who cooks or cuts up meat,
