how is the sanding belt changed ?

how is the sanding belt changed ?
Asked by: koala
Pull the grey lever toward you to loosen the sanding belt. Pull the belt toward you. The lower side (left side) has a tight clearance so you should move the belt a little at a time, top to bottom to top or left to right to left. (depending which position the belt is in). Put on the new belt and center it on the rollers. Close the grey lever. Turn on the unit and watch for drift of the belt. If the drift is great, shut off the unit. If it doesn't move you are set. If it moves off center, turn the yellow knob slowly to bring it back to center. That should be it.

Customer Reviews

Shop Series 4.3 Amp 6 in. Disk 4 in. x 36 in. Belt Sander is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rockwell 4" Belt, 6" Disc Work Bench Sander PROS: This unit is quite (too) heavy, and tends to stay in place rather well during aggressive use. Belt replacement and tweaking is very easy. The overall feel of the unit provides decent response when working with wood pieces. CONS: The overall construction of the unit feels low-end, but I am happy to own this unit rather than the comparable Ryobi unit. If you want an industrial or commercial grade unit, you will need to spend more money. This unit will tolerate low frequency use well, but will not stand up to heavy usage over time. The motor runs now, and I can only hope it will outlast my expectations. Also, the quality of the belt itself is questionable. Hopefully, a replacement belt, when needed, will be a little more structurally formidable. I recommended this unit for persons working with (small) wood projects, but little else. This unit will work for low or moderate usage which does not require precision. Overall, I am happy I bought this unit when looking at the other options in the same price range. Time will tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good. I bought this sander after much research, and so far I'm quite pleased. Anyone looking to purchase a combination benchtop sander will find a lot of bad reviews about machines in this price range. There is a reason the Rockwell sander takes top ratings and is frequently sold out on this website and others. It's a well made tool with plenty of power and a decent warranty for the price. I have been working my Rockwell sander pretty hard over the last two weeks, shaping dense exotic hardwoods. It plows right through them without even getting warm. The heavy cast iron base ensures the sander will not budge while you're working. The dust collection port hooks up to my shop vac perfectly and saves a lot of mess. As with all sanders in this class, some may find the disk table and mitering guide a little flimsy, but it should be sufficient for light hobby use. The belt tensioning mechanism- another concern among similar tools- seems to be sturdy and well designed. If this sander continues to perform as it has for the past couple weeks I'll have no complaints.

Two negatives: (1) The miter gauge is very cheap plastic; it works OK for a sander but I would prefer something beefier. (2) The instructions are barely adequate, illustrated by two pages of very small, dark, muddled photos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little bench top sander Very easy to assemble. Works as advertised. Its a little annoying to change from 180 to 90 degrees because you need to loosen two screws with an allen wrench and then tighten them again to lock it in place, but as far as sanding capability it seems pretty solid. I haven't done a lot on it yet, but for the pieces I have sanded it has been extremely useful. The miter gauge is pretty average for a bench top unit, which is to say mediocre at best, but you can always replace it with a better gauge and I haven't seen anything in this price point with a better one. Overall, if you need to add a belt/disc sander to your shop and you're looking for a solid machine at a reasonable price, you've found it. Much better quality than the Ryobi that home depot has in their stores. Look around because you can find it for less, and home depot will price match.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works quite nicely The machine has only had limited use, but intense use, sanding slats for a small table top. Set up was simple and "Squaring up" the unit's fences was very easy. The set up only took a few minutes, and it was ready to go. Once placed into service, the included sanding belt and disk removed material very efficiently. An adaptor had to be sourced to mate the machine to the shop vacuum, but when all connected the dust collection worked well. The only "Con" on construction quality is the number of plastic parts that could have been metal. That being said, the plastic parts did not diminish the machine's abilities and the unit stayed in place while in use. So far, money well spent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Glad I have it in my wood-shop. My stationary belt/disk sander is relatively new and I really haven't had a chance to use it as extensively as I will in the future. I make wooden toys, jewelry, and other small decor items out of soft wood. The sander will be utilized a lot, but it will be used on small, softer pieces. I have used it sparingly so far, but I'm extremely happy that I've got it in the shop, as I've been able to complete some operations that would not have been possible without it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Relatively quiet and versatile. I was using a standard belt sander for my projects which is quite loud. This unit is quiet and smooth and seems to have enough power to perform the tasks that I need it to do. I like the fact that the table is adjustable up and down, to accommodate various lengths of wood pieces when you are sanding. Ordered online and had it delivered conveniently, right to my door.
