Q:Hello, I applied the asphalt sealant to several cracks in my driveway 12 days ago. It is still shiny and not the matte black that it is supposed to be once cured. How can I fix this? It has been ~65F and 60 - 70% humidity.

Answer This Question

A:  DrivewayFixer, if the Sikaflex Sealant is fully dried to the touch, then you can lightly sand the surface of the sealant to get right some of the shiny appearance that you are currently seeing.

Q:How many years will this product last without cracking

    Answer This Question

A:  Cedar, although our products have been known to last 5+ years there is no exact number for the life span of the product as several external factors also effect the longevity of the sealant. Some customers may need to replace their sealant more frequently than others. A few examples of things that may affect the sealant are weather-does it experience all four seasons, humid or dry climate, etc., vehicle or pedestrian traffic, was the product paint/sealed, has it been contaminated with any solvents, and the surface preparation that was done when the product was initially applied.

Q:Looked at your data sheet and the depth is limited to 1/2 inch. No different than your other product that sell for 1/2 as much. Asphalt driveways are usually 3" thick. the crack goes completely thru, otherwise there wouldn't be a Crack. Scam??
      by|Aug 22, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  oldenough, you are correct all of our sealants have a maximum application thickness of 1/2". The reason for this is because it has been tested and proved that, that is the maximum allowable thickness a joint can handle before the tension on the bond line becomes too great. You can insert backer rod or bond breaker tape into the joint prior to filling the crack to help with controlling the depth. While the application thickness for all of our repair sealants is the same, the technologies of them is different.

Q:How long before you can drive on it?
        by|Jul 30, 2023
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Bbbb, Whenever possible it is always recommended to allow the sealant to achieve full cure, typically 3 to 5 days depending on temperature and humidity, prior to exposing the sealant to vehicle/foot traffic. However, if necessary to open to vehicle/foot traffic sooner, allow a minimum of 24 hours for the sealant to cure after which a piece of plywood can be placed over the sealant to prevent the direct traffic over it and remove the plywood to allow the sealant to continue curing. Alternatively, some customers choose to slightly recess the sealant into the joint, approximately a 1/4" from the surface, to prevent direct traffic.

Glad I got it for my basement leak
9 oz Sikaflex self-leveling asphalt sealant Country of origin - USA My experience with this product has been positive. Here are my suggestions to get the best results - 1/ wait for warmer weather - the tube arrived when it was still cold & wet - warm & dry leads to more satisfying installation and effective leak protection; 2/ prepare the site - in my case that meant an aggressive brushing, followed by compressed air, followed by another aggressive brush and blowing-job; 3/ hand and eye protection - it's hard to get this stuff off of your skin; 4/ a reliable caulking gun for smooth feed; 5/ once you get started, don't stop until the line is finished; and 6/ knee-pads, if you have 'em (I'm old . . .) The positives - yes, the stuff flows nicely above 65f temp and lays more smoothly than a silicone product has for me in the past. the negatives - well, I don't really have any to share right now until our next biblical rainstorm, but the product appears to have filled the gaps, and I'm hopeful.

Does exactly what you think it will
I have a neglected driveway. Its asphalt that was laid on top of broken concrete. The cracks from the concrete have now moved up through the asphalt. The past few years have been crazy so I haven't been taking care of it as I should. But I feel like this is going to help me and after the first week or so it seems to be doing exactly what it should. I'll update in a year if there are problems but I'm about to go get like 15 more tubes to finish my drive. I got about 10 linear feet of cracks filled with it. If you're doing more than one tube like I'm planning on doing you'll probably want one of those electric caulk guns.

          Great Solution for cracks
The Asphalt Sealant is self-leveling so works into horizontal cracks smoothly. It is the perfect product for the cracks in my driveway which are small, but it will fill up to 1.5" cracks. It is flexible and durable to allow for movement and is water resistant. The temperature when applying must be above 50 degrees. It holds up well under ice and pooling water.

          Asphalt Sealant
The tube arrived from homedepot in excellent shape. No blemishes at all. The label reads to store above 60 degrees so I have it indoors in my woodshop, It also states to not to use it unless the temperature is above 50 degrees. I could not test this properly due to it being February in upper Michigan. I have purchased this product in the past for my asphalt driveway.

          Fills cracks easily
The Sikaflex 9 fl. oz. Asphalt Sealant is premium grade. This product is a self-leveling, elastomeric hybrid sealant. It can be used to fill cracks in asphalt substrates up to 1.5 in. W with. This crack sealer works well and comes out of the tube easy. To use this you will need to cut the tip off, the bigger the hole the easier it will come out. For smaller pin point accuracy cut the hole in the tip smaller or at an angle. After the hole is cut you will need to puncture the seal inside. I used an ice pick but a nail could be used. A caulking gun will be needed also. This fills cracks nicely and will improve the look of your driveway and help protect it by keeping the water from getting underneath and doing damage. I would definitely recommend this.

          Easy to apply
Sikaflex 9 oz. Self-Leveling Asphalt Sealant Black. This asphalt sealant is easy to apply with a standard caulking gun. The asphalt sealant is a thick and almost syrup consistency allowing it to be self leveling during installation. This elastomeric hybrid sealant is great. The nice thing about the consistency of this product is that you can adjust your cut on the caulking tube for small cracks and crevices by cutting just the tip of the tube. This sealant is rated to be used for up to 1-1/2 inch wide cracks and crevices. No tools are required to install this product other than a caulking gun and utility knife. I used this asphalt sealant on the alley next to my garage. I cleaned out the cracks and crevices first with a broom to remove any loose materials and debris. The installation was a snap only tanking a few minutes to apply one tube of this product. The asphalt sealant when applied has a gloss black color and adheres well to the substrate. I highly recommend the Sikaflex 9 oz. self-leveling asphalt sealant black for your next driveway repair and maintenance.

Works well to seal driveway cracks
Sikaflex 9 oz. Black Self-Leveling Asphalt Sealant. I got this asphalt sealant to fix a crack that goes across my driveway before completely sealing it this is certainly the right material for the job as it did a very good job sitting in the crack and adhering to the asphalt that was already there I would recommend this to anybody from a do it your self level of confidence to a experienced contractor I guess one thing to note is that you do need a caulking gun to apply this product

          Best on the market
This product is the best on the market when used properly. It's designed to be used on cracks 1.5" or less and depth of the same. You also need to make sure that the surface and air temp are within range. You can't use this product in the late fall, early spring or winter. I think people get themselves in trouble when they try to use things like this off label. If you have a crack that is deep, then fill it with something like closed cell foam first. If you use this early in the formation of cracks then you can stave off worsening. Cracks form with the expansion and contraction of the asphalt due to temps. They also are worsened by ice and water infiltration. This is the exact product to combat that. Plus it just looks better when you don't have cracks in the driveway. Highly recommended.

          Works great!!
This asphalt crack sealer is super easy in apply to cracks in your asphalt. Make sure to read the manufacturer’s recommendations on use and size of cracks. Before applying the sealant I did through preps of the cracks by using a compressor to clear out al the debris. After doing that I grabbed my 9 oz caulking gun and applied the sealant into the cracks in my asphalt. The sealant is self leveling so no need to go back and smooth it out. Very easy to apply and I got some on my hand and it came off fairly easily with warm water and a slightly abrasive sponge.
