A: The short answer is yes. The caps are a tight fit on the 5in x 5in Simtek posts. For added security on some posts, I centered a 3.5in to 4in exterior deck screw in the top of the cap and down into the post top.
A: I would not advise doing that. Lumber expands and contracts a great deal. These caps are a “plastic” type composite and made for the fence posts of the same material. They recommend securing them with one screw if you feel the need to secure them so that there’s an allowance for expansion and contraction. On the composite fence posts they are very tight.
A: check the specs but i don't think so. i have 4 inch square posts and they fit perfect, fit them on and screwed them down wiht self-tapping metal screws. held on in 60 mph winds. maybe you can cut out one side, the back where nobody will see the cut and either adhesive them or screw them down. Hope this helps.
