Questions & Answers

Can these carpet tiles be installed on a cement floor?

Asked by: PatR
I just spoke to a person at the manufacturer - they said it would be fine to put on a cement floor - my floor is in a second floor condo, and the cement is not sealed. She said as long as I vacuum the floors, first, there should be no problem! I am renting my condo, and this seems like the smartest option - I can easily and very cheaply replace the tiles. I used this in my home office and am very happy with it - it is not at all plush, but it does the job!

How many boxes will I need to do a 12 x 12 room
Asked by: Car
I found this formula on the box at the Home Depot store in town. It is for the same brand of tile that are 24 x 24. Room length x room width = square feet Square feet x 1.10 (10%) = total square feet required Total square feet / 40 (square feet in each box) = # of boxes you need.

Customer Reviews

Tranquility Amaretto Texture 24 in. x 24 in. Carpet Tile (10 Tiles/Case) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Carpet Tiles Are An Easy Solution To Covering A Floor I ordered the carpte tiles for the bedroom of the house I am renting to my son and his wife. My son helped me put down the tiles. I used a new blades utility knife from the dollar store to cut them. Then all I had to do was peal off the backing and lay it down. The worst thing was that all the arrows on the back all had to go in the same direction which was no big deal. We had no problems and the room looks nice. Now they will have a warm floor to walk onto and it won't ruin the nice hardwood floor underneath. I didn't realize it but the manufacturer that sent the tiles said she would have sent samples for us to look at. I had a deadline and wasn't able to take advantage of that. She was also very helpful about getting the tiles shipped quickly because of the deadline. The internet picture wasn't good. I thought the tiles were gray but they were a light tan. I would get these again. I had extra tiles left over which I will use to replace ones that get soiled. They have 2 cats.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed in how they hold up Three years ago when we decided to replace our floors I looking into have cheap carpet put in, but with 2 kids and 2 dogs I thought these would be perfect. Get a stain that wont come out, rip up that tile and put a new one down without having to replace the entire carpet. I was very happy with the installation and the way it looked for some time. Now, 3 years and 2 weeks later, we are renovating our house once again, and there were a few tiles I decided I should replace. Unfortunately seeing the 3 year old tiles next to new tiles makes me realize how horribly these have worn. They look lifeless and stringy, no pad left to them. Of course this is just a few weeks after the 3 year wear warranty expired, I should have thought about it before it did. Very disappointed in how they held up in just 3 years (even in places like under the dining room table that doesn't get used that often) and wished I would have gone with something else.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use These carpet squares were easy to install. We put them in our bedroom and just moved the furniture over as we went. They are a nice beige and you can see some of the "tiles" but most of it looks wall to wall. It was tricky cutting around the molding but I got better as I went along.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great inexpensive option, installation can be tough I'm very happy with the color and features of these tiles. With two small kids and two animals, having the option to just pick up the tile to clean it, or exchange it for another one is great. It took me a while to get the seams close enough so that they aren't visible, and if you really focus on it you can still see them, but no one comes to my house and stares at the carpet! Installation isn't as difficult as regular carpet since you don't need the special tools, but cutting pieces to fit gaps or around walls can be tedious. Again not difficult, it just takes time!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works very well These carpet squares go down very easy. I did a 12x12 room in under an hour. It looks pretty good and is nice to walk on. You can see the seems if you look really close but overall has a very nice appearance for carpet tiles. The adhesive back has a good bond to the floor but still gives you some play to position the tiles. I plan on using this stuff for another bedroom. I added some pictures of the job before and after. I got a box with one tile that was a different shade, you can see it in the corner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The product is very easy to install and looks great. If done correctly the seams just seem to disapear The carpet tiles were very easy to install. The large size made the job go twice as fast. When they were placed correctly the seam isn't noticeable. The attached padding makes the floor easy to walk on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for the money good product for the money spent. some of the squares seemed smaller than others and some of the seams are clearly visible. Not super sticky on the back, however does seem to stay in place. Padding is quite thin, would prefer thicker padding. all in all you are getting what you pay for

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The boxes had different color tiles These tiles are a letdown for the money spent. I had 3 issues that made installation a painful process. 1) My boxes had different colors scattered throughout, but not enough for a pattern, just enough to draw attention to the defect. 2) The tiles were not cut straight, which led me to spend hours cutting straight edges with shears and blisters galore. 3) The carpet is unraveling where I had no choice but to correct crooked cuts. I really think this product could be great, if they improved quality control. I'm left cringing that I spent $400+ for flooring I'm embarassed for guests to look too closely at!
