    Answer This Question

A:  Sorry I did not have to pour concrete. I did drill to install the anchors and the concrete was approx 5 in thick. I installed large 6x6 cedar posts, everything is solid!!

A:  The ABW66Z requires a 1/2" diameter anchor. The anchor bolt type, length and embedment is specified by the Designer. Thank you!

A:  I would not use anything smaller than a 1" expansion anchor minimum of 4" long. This is presuming you are attaching the standoff on a concrete support.

Q:What size anchor bolt fits through the bottom and what size screws do you use to secure the post?

          Answer This Question

A:  I used 1/2” anchor bolts (make sure the are galvanized or stainless). Also you don’t use screws to secure the post. Because it is an application where the fastener will experience significant shearing nails are recommended here. Again make sure they are galvanized. I would do a quick web search for Simpson strong ties online catalog that has all of this information.

These post bases will surely stand the test of time. After being anchored into the concrete, the raised platform within the base keeps the post raised off of the concrete over an inch high. This will ensure the posts are not taking a bath each time we get a good rain. Don’t skimp on your post bases. 10/10
