You can use our #10x1 1/2" SD structural connector screws, model number SD10112, for fastening wood post to BC40Z and to fasten the base to wood support. We do not have information on anchoring the part to concrete substrate.

I used Tapcon 1/4 in. x 2-3/4 in. Phillips Flat-Head Concrete Anchors. You gonna need a 3/16 drill bit. Bosch 3/16 in. x 4 in. x 6 in. Blue Granite Turbo Carbide Hammer Drill Bit for Concrete, Stone and Masonry Drilling. This got me though my concrete with no problem using a regular drill. Didn't have a hammer drill. If I had to do it again I would have used shorter screws. Maybe 1-1/2 inch.

do I need to route out holes for the concrete screws to make a completely flat surface

Yes, I used a one inch wood bit to drill hole in bottom of the post. These bases are very flimsy so you may need to add a brace for stability. I decided not to use them, I made some using 3/16"+4" stainless steel tubing and made it much stronger without the need for a brace. Hope this helps.

We use a lot of this type anchor for securing the post base to concrete and decks, great when you want to remove post or for temporary structures, I see no difference.
